U.S. propaganda to Taliban: 'You are condemned'

"Our forces are armed with state of the art military equipment. What are you using, obsolete and ineffective weaponry? Our helicopters will rain fire down upon your camps before you detect them on your radar. Our bombs are so accurate we can drop them right through your windows. Our infantry is trained for any climate and terrain on earth. United States soldiers fire with superior marksmanship and are armed with superior weapons.

"You have only one choice ... Surrender now and we will give you a second chance. We will let you live. If you surrender no harm will come to you. When you decide to surrender, approach United States forces with your hands in the air. Sling your weapon across your back muzzle towards the ground. Remove your magazine and expel any rounds. Doing this is your only chance of survival."

Only the US would still give a fair warning to a force that terrorized and massacred its citizens with the utmost calousness. Likewise, only the US would sponsor "Afghan Refugee charity drives", and devote attentive care to the citizens of a nation with which it is at war.

Granted, I'm proud of us for this altruistic, and moral approach and attitude, but I think that things like this should really be realized and remembered, as they exemplify the good of our nation and of our people.

Well, if it gets a few of them to surrender...
I think it's a waste of time and money though.

And the food drops? Pfff. If the U.S. really wants to win over the Afghani people, it'll be done on the ground, using tactics such as were used to succeed in Phuoc Tuy province in Vietnam under the Australian forces.

Just to continue my point...

Not to mention that we halt action in order to observe and respect the Muslim day of prayer, upon Afghani soil. My point, PIT, is that very rarely do you see a country consider and factor into their decisions, their opponent in war, rather than use their vulnerabilities to their advantage.

I don't know whether that's a good thing. Sure, it appeases our consciences, but it probably leads to more lives being lost, and I don't think they appreciate us any more for doing so.

Actually...we are doing that for 2 reasons:

1) To keep the Afghan citizens from uniting with the Taliban and...
2) Attempt to draw the Afghan citizens to our side.

We aren't doing this for the sake of "good" will. We are doing this to keep a precarious Mid East coalition solid and in hopes of dividing a nation. Sure, it's looked upon as a kind thing, but I think it's really just part of our strategy to win a war.

I know that's the intention, but I doubt it's working. Come on, how would you feel if a nation came over your skies, bombing the living crap out of everything around you, day after day, and then came over again and dropped food parcels? If they really want to win over the Afghani people, it'll have to be done with human-to-human contact, like in Vietnam.
