I tend to like dark themes. However, a good percentage of users don't like them. Well, maybe the dislike isn't strong enough to mean much, but in marketing it might be a loss.

I prefer dark themes myself. I usually have the option of light and dark on my forums since I know not everyone likes dark themes or vice versa. I even have my work email set to a dark theme. xD I just think light themes are too bright.

I think it just depends on the niche sometimes. I've always been a fan of darker themes but they just don't suit certain forums like promotion or webmaster forums.

Most of my websites are blogs and forums where people get to read articles and interact with topics (in the case of forums). In my experience, it will be practically difficult to read and write when you have a dark background, Therefore, I use a light theme.

I think dark themes are just as easy to read. However, I think it's an individual thing. Anyway, though, certain fonts on a dark theme can make it worse. Also, I have seen fonts on a white theme that make things tough.

Very true. That's why I like sites that let you customise the appearance. I know it's hard to implement but being able to choose the site colours or simply being able to switch between a light and dark theme is very nice.

I see forums offering a dark theme. I personally like the Light one as the Dark hurts my eyes. What prompts people to opt for the dark one? Does it look different on a cell phone vs desktop?

Whenever I join a site, blog, or forum I always look for the option as a dark mode as I feel that it is easier on the eyes for someone like me who is on the PC a lot due to work. Not everyone always likes dark mode though and would prefer light mode so it is always wise to have both options if you own any type of site so that they have the choice and are happy viewing your site.

I have always used light themes on the forums I've run in the past but this time I have decided to use a dark theme as it's easier on my eyes and doesn't strain my eyes.
