COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Wendy's founder Dave Thomas died at his home in Florida, the company said Tuesday. Thomas was 69.

Thomas died around midnight at his Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home, the nation's No. 3 fast-food hamburger chain said, but gave no word on the cause of death.

Thomas built a Columbus, Ohio, hamburger stand into one of the world's most successful fast-food franchises.

Thomas had been undergoing dialysis for a kidney problem since early 2001, and had quadruple heart bypass surgery in December 1996.

kinda like the marboro guy who died cuz of lung cancer. :(

I never did figure that out to . . . I always called that the square patty in the round bun place. But seriously the burgers were good, and I will miss his cheesy commercials. Do you think they will do what kfc did and turn him into a cartoon?

That's a shame, really. Of all of the fast food places, I still like to go to Wendy's...even though all fast food places make me cringe when I think of the sheer amount of grease used.

Some of the only fast food I will eat are Wendy's chili and frostys...

mmmmmmmmmmm, frosty...........

I believe the square buns have to do with "not cutting corners" (a cutesy advertising scheme in relation to the food's quality)
