Hey I've been seriously thinking about finally venturing into the diet part of weight loss...along with exercise of course. Generally they haven't worked for me in the past (hence the pessimism in my first post of this thread) but I'm hearing nothing but good things about this diet. A doctor relative of mine has been following the reports about the Atkins diet (his father was a patient of Dr. Atkins and he lost weight) and recently found reports that it *really is* good for your heart and may actually prevent heart disease. Despite all the fat intake.
I'm starting to understand the basic concept that this diet forces your body to digest in a more efficient way. With all the carbohydrates we eat, the body gets lazy and uses that for energy and stores the fat. The diet lessens the amount of carbs so your body is forced to burn fat for energy instead...which is what it is supposed to do in the first place.
I have also been doing research on the stuff I can eat on this diet and honestly, the food I'm allowed to eat on this diet is the only food my digestive system really seems to accept without much of a problem (I hurt if my system doesn't like what I eat). My only downfall to me is soda. I can have rite aid and that's it! If I am going to do this right I gotta give that up and I'm totally addicted to soda. I also love milk. I gotta give that up too, but if I do get some stomach acid issue, I have no choice but to have some milk...that works the best to calm my tummy down.
So, I will be getting started on attempting this journey. Wish me luck!
