DS #1 is taking a scholarship test there in February and I wanted to book a hotel room there for the night before. Someone recommended going through Priceline. I can search for hotels near Marquette and they show me ratings stars and distance, but I thought someone here could give me some tips.

It seems like parking your car is a big expense and some places charge you again if you take it out and bring it back (?). I also can't figure out if you can walk from the hotel or need to drive to campus. I feel like such a dork!

So CW ladies, lay on my your words of wisdom!

Thanks!

The area around Marquette gets very sketchy very quickly. I would not stay anywhere near campus north of 94/ west of 43. (The campus is safe. My ExH & I went there and always felt safe, even with our DD in tow.) On campus is fine...there are things to do/walk to, but if you stay off the main drag I wouldn't walk to/from campus. It's not a big city like Chicago, so it can be a little isolated on the side streets.

The Hotel Metro is very nice, so is the Pfister. I think the DoubleTree & the Hilton are attached to the mall or right near the mall and those are probably nice. I would really pay attention to star ratings so you don't end up in a shady part of town.

I will never forget my 30th bday when DH & I went to Milw. for the night...I had booked a fantastic looking room at a boutique hotel. The place was a DUMP. We ended up at the Hotel Metro.

I don't know of a Hotel, but you reminded me of a big BLUE envelope that came in the mail for my DS today...He got his first acceptance from Marquette today!! one down 3 more to go!

DH wants to drive up that morning (from Chicagoland) and I said no way! All you need is some bad weather or someone to oversleep and you are out of luck! DS is a great test taker, so no need for stress!

Thanks ladies!

You can stay in any hotel downtown and the area is fine, and a straight shot to Marquette on WI Ave or Michigan.

The area around Marquette is to put it plain Ghetto.

Good luck!

The Ambassador hotel is a nice older hotel. They have undergone a recent renovation so rooms should be nice. It is super easy to get around that area. Even if you need to stay 10 minutes away near the baseball stadium it is easy to get into town and parking is free. If you stay closer to the basketball arena those hotels charge a ridiculous price for parking.

Hey my ds is going to marquette tomorrow to spend the weekend with his girlfriend..he is texting her right now for a suggestion
