any suggestions?
i've always used servu - but after many months of not using it, i fired that sucker up and...though it worked well for the most part.....there seemed to be some issues that were never there

so......i goto open up g6 which i've also enjoyed in the past....but i realized for some reason it was uninstalled
so i goto download it and find its now called "bpftp server"
well....i dunno if it's my machine or what, but this thing sucks
SUCKS
it's slow, hogs my resources, etc...
functionality is of huge importance to me.....but when i have to deal with a screen loading for 30 seconds just to add a user that's crossing the line

i want something small, easy, and quality
i'll probably reinstall servu....but i thought it'd be nice to have some opinions first

Have you tried WarFTP? It's been recommended to me on several occasions, and it's worked well for me in limited use.

well
come to think of it.....i forgot all about war
it was the first ftpd i ever used
but......mmm...sometime around 1997-98 they released a version that i totally hated
had a picture of some kid in the splash screen thingy
i think i will go back and give it a shot though

good call DD

welp
the warftpd site scared me away

so i've been messing with bpftpd 2.10 (not the most current) which seems to be decent

and servu 3.0 which is great except a few things
i wish i could mix the two

the thing i hate most about the current servu
is ... say my icon lights up meaning a user logged on
i wanna see who it is
i have to go through about 4 menues just to get to the connection info
then once im there.....i have to REFRESH the **** thing to see any new activity

it's as if they've moved ahead in many aspects and backwards in others

Well, I'd suggest using your Linux box for FTP duties, as the Linux daemons are usually more flexible than their Windows counterparts, but you probably would've thought of that already.

G6 is now bpftpd? Ack. I had been meaning to check it out, had heard nothing but good things about it last year. But seems like along with the name change, they also introduced inferior code.

As for WarFTPd, which version is considered the desirable one to use? I know many who had tried out 1.7.x (?) had switched back to 1.6.x. Not sure if it was mostly the lack of additional addons, like zip/ace/rar/sfv checkers, or if it was resource hungry.

I too need something other than the Serv-U server from middle of 1999.

yeah ive been using WARftp forever. i tried servu but never liked it

i use a fairly old version of war tho. i think its 1.65. they came out with 1.7 and 1.75 which were much much easier to use and were easier on the eyes i think and i did use them when i had my dsl, but i read somewhere that they had these huge security holes in em. so i keep the older one around. works fine for me
