Under 8 unsupervised, wtf?
Bad parents.

But from article:
"She said her children, ages 9 and 6, were riding their motorized scooters in the cul-de-sac where they live while she watched from a lawn chair in her front yard just a few feet away."

wtf? arrest her for that, a 6 year old on a motorized scooter in the street supervised or not. No common sense.

chgobob do you have kids? Just wondering.

Nope, but I was one (not a wild child) and talk to my folks about what they would have allowed. Heck we never even had curfew growing up (unnecessary), as long as my folks knew where we were (and called landlines of course then) was fine. But then again, the "wild kids" hung out at the Taco Bell and not drugs or popping out kids in HS . Never met anyone who smoked pot until college.

And I have 5 nieces and nephews. I could not see my brothers or SILs allowing stuff like unsupervised etc.

Wow, sounds to me like some neighbor really does not like her--they had to take an affadavit from the person who sent in the report--I would want to know why they said they were unsupervised. In our area you can not ride motorized scooters in the street---doesn't matter age--motorcycles you have to have the license--but motor scooters are not allowed--so I think some neighbor did not like the noise of the scooters and said she wasn't there---
I still think they should have given a warning--but to put her in the cop car etc--
WOW

I also don't get the fact that it appears the cop came after this incident occurred. So its really a he said she said situation if they didn't physically see it. I let my 7 & 9 year old play outside unsupervised, however in the side yard, not down the street. I wouldn't let them walk down to a park, but have let them play at a park at a friends house that was literally in their back yard. It was a cul de sac type of neighborhood. I'm trying to allow them to be kids, but protect them too since there are many bad people out there.

Sorry didn't read the article but IF we are talking about kids drag racing on dirt bikes atvs' I just call the cops since they do do it on my street and it is a public street. The cops always just warn them to knock it off and they usually do. I just can't stand the noise and I also worry about them getting hurt. But to arrest someone for her kids playing outside is JUST PLAIN STUPID! What a bunch of morons!

There is a street by my house that is not a main street but runs through from 103rd street to 107th street. Everybody uses this street to avoid the major streets. It is completely residential, though but it is wider than a normal residential street.

There is a family that moved in on the corner of 105th street. They have 2 boys from what I can figure. About 4 and 6 years old. They are always in the street riding their bikes.

No parent in sight. Anybody could grab these boys and be gone in an instant. Parents don't think sometimes.

These scooters are not true motorized scooters. They run off a rechargeable battery. The kids can run faster than these scooters go. Hell, my kids got their first real dirt bikes at age 8. But they also were skiing down mountains by the age of 5. Bad parent I know, I let them enjoy the outdoors. Maybe technology is the better alternative. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Xactly! A lil neighbor boy has a couple of those and my kids love riding them cause they're cool but my son can go faster on his bike.
My boys have been playing outside all day with the neighbor kids..............they were digging dirt, playing with bugs, etc. Now they're wiped out...............good times. :):cartwheel:

What exactly is halo? With two teenage boys I probably should know but I really have no idea.:hides:

A video game, I've never played it. Its actually quality time for my brother with his kids playing it together.

"Halo is a multi-billion dollar science fiction video game franchise created by Bungie and now managed by 343 Industries and owned by Microsoft Studios. The series centers on an interstellar war between humanity and a theocratic alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. The Covenant are led by their religious leaders, The Prophets, and worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished in combat with the parasitic Flood. Many of the games center on the experiences of Master Chief John-117, a cybernetically enhanced human super-soldier, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana. The term "Halo" refers to the Halo rings: large, habitable structures that were created by the Forerunners to destroy the Flood. They are similar to the Orbitals in Iain M Banks' Culture novels, and author Larry Niven's Ringworld concept.[1][2]"

I would NOT call playing a violent first-person shooting Xbox game with your kid "quality time."

Why not? My DH plays video games (yes shoot em up types) with DS12 (almost 13). They have a blast and talk and laugh. Then after they do that, DS is more likely to wanna help DH do stuff around the house/ yard because they have fun together. :9:
