NEW YORK -- A woman attacked and killed her mother-in-law during a dinner table argument at their Elmhurst, Queens home on Saturday, authorities said.

The woman, Ayeshr Aktir, 32, allegedly attacked Farida Begum, 74, numerous times with a meat cleaver during the meal at about 7:40 p.m. causing several lacerations about her body, said Officer John Sullivan, a police spokesman.

Begum was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital early Sunday morning.

Published reports say the two women were arguing because Begum declined to give Akter rice with dinner because it was too fattening.
