DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - The World Economic Forum summit degenerated into a verbal clash between its organisers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) furious at police handling of protests.
Several civil rights and environmental lobby groups which took part in this year's meeting threatened to boycott the forum's next annual summit unless it helped to ensure free demonstrations in future.
They accused Swiss authorities of breaching civil rights with their ban on anti- globalisation protests in Davos and perceived heavy-handed treatment of demonstrators.
