I never did post pics of my Pinterest Christmas project. It's been through a few storms and windy days so it's not quite as crisp as it was in the beginning but it still held up fairly well.

Next year I'd be sure to weigh down the boxes better and find something better to hold all three boxes together (I used an old curtain rod this time.) I'll also trim the vinyl tablecloth better because it's a **** trying to staple through a few layers.

Ok, mine looked nothing like that. :giggles: I didn't have an urn and no way in hell was I going to get the boxes to be staggered. But this was what I ended up with. I did get several compliments on it and love the fact that I can take it apart and toss it and just make a new one next year for very little money.

Yours are really pretty. How did you get them to not tip over? (yes I realize they are glued together but how did you weight it down)
 
I'd leave the bottom bottom open so you could set it over a cement block or something heavy....maybe stick a chain to it, just in case
 
Joan you did a great job!!! It's nice to be able to see your front door (ya know...............whithout those ginormous over grown bushes). :lol:
 
Love the red boxes and gold ribbon against the blue house and white door. I bet that was really eye-catching from the street

Thanks Fuzzy! They're actually not glued together. I cut a hole in the middle of each box and stuck a curtain rod through from the bottom one straight up to the top one. It wasn't quite long enough so the top one fell off a few times. I just put a bunch of packages of note cards I had (got from dumpster diving years ago and never did find a home for them) in each box to weigh them down. Next time I think I'll go with some old canned goods or maybe some rocks.

Thanks Rebecca - my bushes were trimmed earlier this year. They look much better now.

Thanks kg! It looked great during the day and at night with the front light on you could see it as well.


I was feeling pretty crafty the day I made these. (That doesn't happen very often for me.) :giggles: Well that was until I set them outside and shortly after looked out and saw it toppled over. I managed to put it out on one of the windiest days we had. After picking it up a few times and feeling very un-crafty I cut a slit on the bottom of the top two boxes and stuffed more note card packs in there. For the rest of the season, it didn't topple over.

It really didn't take long - and that's coming from an un-crafty person. If you're even the slightest bit crafty you'd get them done in no time.
