XP Volume Control AWOL!!!

you guys know that little megaphone/speaker icon on the bottom right side of your windows screen that lets you adjust the volume???... well.. um.. it's not here in XP and it's driving me insane!!!!.. if you guys know a fix.. please let me know.. i'm tired of going through the start menu.. argh!

nm.. i got it.. you need to go to the control panel.. then audio settings.. and check the box that says put icon in taskbar
