For me it is. I have the gold membership. There was one year we had to be towed over 14 times and many times it was for more than 50 miles. We did not have to pay anything else than the AAA membership. I am running out to graduation right now but will be back later.
I had AAA for many years, fortunately did not have to use it often. IMO it was well worth the money for peace of mind.
You do not need to 'bother' friend or family if you get a flat..... I have a newer car so I would not say you only should get if it you have a junky car, left the interior light on - they came out to give me a jump. Had a flat 3 mos. ago and felt much better to call the service than to bother a friend. Couple of years ago, locked the keys in the car - called them again.
I got AAA when I was single, drove a clunker, and went out of state ALOT.
It was handy for flats and battery jumps. DH said to drop it and save the cash but once we were coming home from a long daytrip and the car just died. We were in the boonies, at 2 am, with 2 kids sleeping in the car. With 1 phone call to AAA we had a tow truck lined up and a taxi sent for us. (with car seats for kids)
Less than 45 minutes later the car was at the shop and we were all home safe and sound.
check your auto insurance policy...most have some type of roadside assistance
With 5 kids with cars (flat tires, dead batteries, locking keys in car and running out of gas)We love AAA We were on vacation about month ago and the car broke down, called AAA and in our policy we had trip interruption and AAA took care of our lodging, food, rental for 2 days while are car was in the shop it is worth it!
I have had it for about 12 years now and I have used it in some way, shape or form every year. If I don't need the roadside assistance, we do use the travel books if we travel and the discounts on other local stuff.
I know the hotel information can be found on-line, but we like the sightseeing stuff listed by town at the front of the book. Sometimes we don't always know what we are going to see on the way to our final destination or if the weather changes, it's easy to find other things to do.
We have also used the roadside assistance on occasion and they have been very good. The last time we used it was when we were traveling and the car broke down on Christmas Eve during the snowstorm. No problems even though quite a few places were closed.
As another poster mentioned, it's always brought me peace of mind.
Yes! One tow, one jump...plus discounts. I have wondered how they stayed in business b/c I always use my membership- even bought my DH a sub ( just $10 extra one year) so I could get additional tows.
