Aliensoup CS tournament/scrimage? FINITY, definitely read...

Nap> I hate to state the obvious, but I thought it was clear enough by my having T1 access that I was AT WORK!

A T1 is too expensive for any home user, and the extra bandwidth is wasted for a single user, since a remote site would generally be a bottleneck, rather than the local connection.
T1's are designed to handle many users connecting simultaneously. Most medium to medium-large businesses connect to the Internet via T1's, unless they're stupid and cheap and are using multiple ISDN lines.

Anyway.....to get this thread back on topic, sorry that I've been away from it, for so long, but I have yet to get my DSL modem, so I cannot set up any kind of server, yet. Bear with me, folks. I'll get something going, as soon as I can.

So as not to scare off potential CS players, I'd like to ask (very nicely

) that any networking discussions such as these be taken over to the General Tech forum. Not to dissuade such discussions as there are those of us (myself included) who love to talk about networks and the associated benefits. Thanks, so much! We just need to keep this area more for gaming and related discussions.

bwahahahaha...

i've been playing on servers hosted on large college campuses mostly.. and the people that play there have no lives and a very good ping.. usually i'm about avg there.. tonite.. i got bored so i decided to go to a more public server.. came out with a 22 and 1 kill ratio.. heh.. didn't realize how tough the competition was in those servers

Prox> I was surprised yesterday when Beaker came into work with his new retail copy of CS.
He didn't have a copy of HL, but the box pretty clearly says that "For the single player experience, purchase Half-Life".

I don't know about the 87MB download, but the retail package is a stand-alone game.
I thought for sure that it was an add-on.

That supprises me. I have only seen it included with half-life. I guess that is cool. I mean that 87mb download is a real bummer unless you are on a shared T3 and even then it takes a little while. Great Game though.

They threw a couple extra things into the retail version, like a practice mode with a whole training regimen included.
The menu option for Practice mode is not available in the 87MB download that I have, but I can click where the menu option would be, and it will try to load the Practice mode, but the map isn't there. I would imagine with a few modifications, one would be able to run Practice mode without the retail version.

Of course, once you've completed it, you wouldn't need it any more, would you?

the practice mode is really stupid.. don't go out and buy the retail for it.. it's basically a tutorial of the game.. like the tutorial of halflife
