Any ex-smokers out there

Day 3 for me was the worst. In fact, day 3 is probably the worst physically for most people. You are now at the point where the physical addiction is getting less with each passing hour.

but the mental/psychological addiction is screaming for attention, like a child having a temper tantrum. This is just the beginning of the temper tantrum. Be prepared to deal with it. Find a buddy, someone who is not a smoker - anyone - your enemy even! Have them by your side as much as possible tomorrow. Use them, lean on them and tell them how much you really want a cigarette and let them tell you how much you really don't. You are actually almost past the worst of it.

Hang in there! You CAN do it.

hopefully not on chantix??? and good luck, no never smoked but truly do crave the habit, i have an addictive personality and i love the smell of a freshly lit ciggy in the cold of winter esp. i have lots of friends that have successfully done it cold turkey, but they really had a motivating factor, hope you do too as well.

If you really think about it, using chantix, patches, nicotine gums ect you are still getting nicotine. That will prolong the withdrawal effects. Chew a gum not similar to what you smoked... if your a menthol smnoker then stay away from minty gums. It could trigger a craving. Chew cinnamon. or bubble gum.

Steve

So I guess you say "Don't be a quitter!"

No......more like,....those that do quit, have more...(for a lack of a better word....balls),... and determination, than I do. More Power to them, and, I admire those who do quit.

Dh was on it and it did help him quit BUT he was psycho on it, known him 20 years and never seen him that way.

Plus when he went off it he went back to smoking in less than 1 year :surrender:

I'm not a smoker.......

Any of my friends who have quit to become pregnant eventually go back to smoking. So do it for yourself. One day you are going to be somebody's Mother and you will want to watch your child grow up and be in their lives forever. Do it for YOUR future.

Good luck to you and hang in there. You can do it.

I smoked for 10 years pack a day. I tried to quit many times for many reasons like my boyfriend didnt smoke, or I know its bad for me, or Im graduating college and I want to be a teacher and teachers shouldnt smoke etc etc. But each time I didnt really want to quit, I just thought I should. Sure I still crave them when I drive or when Im drinking but at the end of the day Im so much happier not being held down by smoking. I used to hate going out with our friends that didnt smoke because then I would have to sit in the non smoking section of the restaurant and I couldnt smoke in the car. I hated going to baseball/basketball/football games because I was drinking and couldnt smoke for hours until I got outside the park I would think about the next cig I could have constantly and not really having fun. It really was a burden and I never realized it. I was addicted in the worst way. Until the day I found out I was pregnant and I quit cold turkey, no looking back! When you REALLLY want it, for YOU you will do it. It will be hard you have to look at it as a not an option to have one. PERIOD. Not I really want but I shouldnt have one, and negotiating with yourself. You are done smoking plain and simple. Good luck to you!

Or just be like my Stepmonster and smoke during your pregnancy and the whole time you raise your child. Ignore the constant illnesses, ear infections, etc. that your child has.............like my stepmonster did. :surrender:

I quit 2.5 yrs ago - I smoked for 22yrs. I tried using one of the electronic cigarrettes, and this was before it became popular. After a couple days using it, I switched to a non-nicotine blend. The act of inhaling the vapor really helped me get over that initial hump. I gave up on the e-cig a couple weeks in I think.
Anyway, first few days are bad, you feel like your head is going to explode. It steadily gets easier. For the first year, I still thought about it every day.

Keep it up, it's so worth it. It wasn't long before I could smell and taste again. The stench was gone. The coughing and constant nasal congestion went away. After a few months, hair regrew below my calves. (Apparently I had circulation issues.)

Best advice I can give is find something else to fill the addictive void, for me it was couponing. It'll help keep your mind off smoking.

My DH quit about 6 weeks ago. He quit because he wanted to switch his insurance to a plan with a lower monthly cost. I thought he'd start up again, but so far so good. He's crabby & he has eaten all of our snacks, including things like Cosmic brownies that I buy for the kids- he doesn't care what it is.

Good luck. I smoke, I don't think I could quit. Not right now anyway. I was able to quit when I was pg with my kids, but I started back up right away. I should have just quit then, but it was 7 minutes all to myself at a time when all I ever got was 7 minutes a few times a day. I'm trying to cut back from almost a pack a day to a half a pack a day. I think that will be my goal in the fall.

Im so proud of you ....each and every day you make is a success hon....... this august it will be 19 years for me since i quit....i only qyuit once but smoke for many years.......get something to do with your hands......as time goes by the cravings get less and less.. now i cant stand to be in smoked filled rooms..........noone is allowed to smoke in my house ..... and although you can still get cravings i look at the prices n now the health reasons and say im proud of myself....if you really want to quit you can do it.............
