Birth Control???

I agree. I have the Mirena and I am annovulatory, so yes I have much lighter periods, but they come every month now. It is mainly spotting, but it is irritating because it is not enough to use a tampon.

Do you have any spotting, or nothing? I havee been on it since December and still spot frequentlly and have a lot more discharge. I MUST wear pantyliners at all times AND P&G no longer is giving them away.

It's a conspiracy.

Loestrin. DH was gonna get snipped after #3, then I got my periods back and I said....hell no, put me on the pill! My monthlies were really bad. Heavy bleeding, extreme cramping, sometimes fainted. Loestrin is fine for me. I get super light periods. There are only 4 inactive pills each month. I don't mind it.Loestrin 28 btw

I have used both Yaz and Loestrin24. Both worked great. Loestrin shortened my cycle big time, and with the Yaz I get nothing! I love them both.

I have to say I read this entire thread and then thought--why? What could I possibly hope to either learn or contribute?

But since I read the whole thing I feel obliged to offer my 2 cents from my experience which is this:

The whole gay thing is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy and neither my husband nor I have had our period in YEARS!!

HTH:lol:

Condoms.....and I HATE them!

Was on the pill for years but after having the lump taken out of my breast last year I was told I couldn't take it anymore, plus I was getting too old anyway. I need to find something else. I really really miss feeling the real thing.

I had a bad experience with BC pills.

I had an IUD for 5 years then 2 years ago got a new IUD (the first one I had was good for 5 years). Now that I am 40 and we really have figured out we want no more kids I am going to have the IUD removed and have Essure/ablation which will both sterilize me & stop my monthly periods :)

I have bad, bad periods so this option is particularly attractive.

You are going to LOVE it!
:cartwheel: I had one in March and I couldn't be happier! Even my PMS symptoms have lessened!

:shesaid: but I don't hate them. I've never, ever been on any type birth control other than condoms (and ****s). :)

Another vote for the Mirena IUD here. I did spot a lot at first...don't remember exactly how long, but now my periods are so light I don't use anything. I do still notice them usually, but I really don't have use even a liner. However, if you're looking for something to keep your cycle regular, this won't help. I'm just as irregular as I was before it was put in almost 3 years ago! :pout:

Almost forgot this! If you decide to try for another child, the IUD can come out and you can start trying right away. With the pill you're supposed to wait a few months.

I'm on Ortho Evra and no complaints really. Wasn't sure we were done... now am sure we are done. Looking for something more permanent... so this thread is helpful!

Was on the Ortho Tricyclen Lo - and got pregnant on it twice. Enough of that!!

Would love for hubby to get the snip - but no insurance right now and it's not cheap. I have the "pink card" thing through the state of IL which covers female exams and BC.

Really? we use condoms as well...in fact I have been using condoms for the past yr. as I haven't had health insurance. Although it is different once I am past my ovulation cycle then we go free until I get my monthly. DH HATES them but I don't really mind....I like it both ways now...

I gave up birth control almost immediately after I started using it. Hormonal BC frightens me. I know this sounds like a crackpot story but I have the medical records to prove it unfortunately.

I almost lost my sight after taking Ortho Tricyclen. Look in the lit... one possible side effect is "steepening of the corneas". Doesn't sound so bad, right? Well I now have such a severe astigmatism now that I needed $800 contacts to correct fully. I spent months with my eyes changing so fast that I couldn't get correction.... was on disability from work for months. Thank God they finally stopped. It was a truly horrific experience with lots of specialists and medical bills all for a stupid little pill.

We'd rather have babies than all the negatives of birth control... so far in 7yrs we've only had one wonderful child. Fertility charting can be helpful for making and avoiding babies. Have you ever read Taking Charge of Your Fertility?

I am looking to go on BC not to try and avoid pregnancy per say but to get control of my life back. I have never been on BC. I have been married for 22 years and I have 2 boys. Ages 4 and 2. So obviously I am not a "fertile Mertile". Since the birth of the last my child my period has DRAMATICALLY changed. It is getting in the way on my life. Honestly I can't go on like this..............:pms:

I am looking at something like Lybrel. I was hoping to get every bodies experiences both good and bad. I have to make my decision by August 15th.

I would love another child but due to DH's and my age we just don't think it is possible. We are very lucky we have been blessed with 2 healthy boys. Our family is complete.

I am sorry about your experience with BC. I have been reading side effects and think "Wow does this really happen to people?" And you are proof it does.

Would NEVER happen. Not in my lifetime anyways.

Right now, nothing as we decided to start a family together....

Have done the patch before and liked it. Was super regular and after the first month of getting used to it almost no side effects. If soon to be hubby didn't promise snip snip after we were done I would definatly go back on this.
