cake balls help?

What kind of chocolate do you guys use to put on your balls? :rimshot:

Seriously tho - do you just use Nestle chips or bar chocolate? I have problems during the dipping process.

Did anyone ever see the episode of South Park where Chef is trying to sell his chocolate salty balls? There's a song that he sings with it...pretty funny.

When I made them I used melting chocolate I got at a craft store. They were little discs and melted pretty easy.

yep we make and roll freeze then dip before event--

I use from sams club the ghirdelli dipping chocolate they sell at christmas ( i buy a lot)
BUT I have used the craft store stuff too

and even choc chips

Made some cake balls and pops today. Were going to my DH's nieces birthday party tomorrow on st patricks day, so wanted to bring something festive even though it will be for a house full of italians, lol.

Yellow cake mix and vanilla frosting dipped in milk chocolate. I added green food coloring to the cake mix before baking, and the frosting happened to be green as well because it was from christmas. Already had a couple lol and yes they are good but they could use more chocolate......Im a chocolate lover! I enjoy the yellow cake mix with chocolate frosting mixed more but wanted the inside to be a color. I think Im gonna make carrot cake with cream cheese frosting dipped in vanilla and strawberry with strawberry or cream cheese frosting dipped in chocolate for easter.

Attempting to make some cake balls today for Easter but trying a little healthier version. Making the sugar free cake mix with diet 7up. Frosting is sugar/fat free vanilla pudding, sugar free cool whip & skim milk. They will still be dipped in white chocolate chips. If I get 45 out of the batch they will 85 calories each. I'll let you know how they turn out.

ETA: A regular recipe of yellow cake mix as prepared on the box, tub of vanilla frosting & wilton white chocolate discs would be about 150 calories for each cake ball.

How Did these turn out? anything to help cut down calories!

I made more cake balls for easter as well.....made strawberry with cream cheese frosting dipped in pink and milk chocolate, and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting dipped in yellow and white chocolate. First time making both combinations, and they were really good, everyone loved them. My mother even really liked the carrot cake and shes not a huge fan of cake balls because she thinks they are too sweet. Again, there addicting, have been eating one of each from the leftovers for desert every night lol. Gonna make lemon cake balls next! Lemon cake with either lemon or cream cheese frosting, dipped in yellow and white chocolate.

In my other foil tin, I put the cake pops upside down in a cupcake holder in an egg carton. So cute. Saw that online and was a perfect idea for holding cake pops, especially for easter!
