Chicago Area or Dupage Co. Fertility Clinic?

Dr. Lawrence Jacobs was my doctor and he was absolutely the best!

"Laurence A. Jacobs M.D. is the only Chicago-area reproductive endocrinologist to be consistently named year after year in all Castle Connelly's publications, America's Top Doctors (top 1% of specialists in America), and Chicago's Top Doctors (one of the top fertility doctors in the Chicago area) from 2001 to 2011."

He is part of Fertility Centers of Illinois.

I had suffered repeat miscarriages and one time my dh was out of town and it was very early on a Sunday morning. I woke up in extreme pain and could barely even talk. I called his emergency number and he said to call an ambulance to go to Lutheran General Hospital and that he would meet me over there. He met me at the ER and took care of me there all morning! He did so much for me and really cares. I have three beautiful children because of him!

I had Dr Jacobs too!! LOVE him! Highly recommend going to FCI. Dr Jacobs is like a father-figure kind of doctor...loves you like a daughter. Great office staff too (i went to the office in Glenview).

We used FCI and Dr. Rapisarda. I also saw Dr. Jacobs on occasion. I had a fantastic experience with the center. I have two IVF children as a result. Thank God IL is a mandated fertility treatment pay state.

Still researching what you all have recommended. I have another question. We believe life begins at conception.... did any of you choose your RE with consideration for how he handled issues relating to this?

I think that means you are going to have to be more specific in what you will and won't want to do. Every RE makes you discuss all of this prior to starting treatment. You won't be the first patient who has objections to certain things, but there are protocols and guidelines all RE's follow. This will be discussed with you for certain.

My sister had the same concerns and I believe they just fertilized however many eggs they were willing to implant (I could be wrong about this it's been a few years). Amazingly, both the eggs took and one split! I now have beautiful, 2yo triplet nieces. They were only going to try once and that's all they needed thankfully.

How does a first visit typically go? I'd like to visit a couple of places and compare them in person.

I actually met Dr. Miller as my surgeon for fibroids, so my first visit was for that. I asked how it would affect my fertility and he bluntly said that it really needed to be now or never. He told me that if I tried to get pregnant 3 months after the fibroid surgery it would work no problem and he was correct.

For his office you meet with him for him to take some basic notes and then based on how he believes you should proceed you either meet with a fertility nurse or IVF coordinator. Those second meetings may be on the same day and can run 1-2 hours.

This is a case where you just have to write down all of your questions, put your big girl panties on and check your embarrassment at the door. They've heard it all, seen it all and all they want is to make you healthy, if you weren't already as in my case, and make you a baby. Before they have done any testing they know the odds in general and after they have done the testing they know how those odds have shifted for/against you.

Be prepared for cold hard harsh facts. Nothing is sugar coated as this is too expensive and too emotionally draining.

Find yourself a support network - online or IRL - you are going to need it. Although from the number of responses you've received here it looks like you have one built in.

You can PM me any questions you have that you don't want to air out in the open. I've been blessed with a home run first at bat and then had to go through things I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
