What an offseason this has been! Free agency took a baseball bat to several big-name teams.

  • Prince Fielder left the Brewers and signed with the Tigers.
  • Albert Pujols left the Cardinals and signed with the Angels.
  • C. J. Wilson left the Rangers and also signed with the Angels.
  • Jose Reyes left the Mets and signed with the Marlins (who then made him cut off his dreadlocks).

Outside of that, there were plenty of notable moves:

  • To fill that pitching void left by Wilson, the Rangers posted for Yu Darvish.
  • The Yankees traded Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi to the Mariners for two pitchers, Michael Pineda and Jose Campos.
  • Yoenis Cespedes completed his escape from Cuba and signed with the A's.
  • The Red Sox picked up a new manager, Bobby Valentine.

What do you think of these moves? Are there any moves you'd like to see before the season starts?

The Angels have a chance to be really good for a while, but the last few years of Pujols' contract are going to be absolutely brutal. Wilson is also a great pickup for them.

As a Red Sox fan, I hope that Bobby V. will help instill a culture of hard work into the Red Sox. This last season was the most painful I can remember - nothing worse than watching such a talented team play like garbage down the stretch.

Very jealous of the Yankees move, Pineda is a player I covet. He will be a great pitcher as long as he can handle the pressure of NYC, some can, some can't.

I have to say, I respect the Yankees for their (mostly) sharp personnel moves. What do you think of the Pineda trade? Montero is truly a great prospect, and losing someone like him is never really a good thing. All that said, between Pineda, Nova, and Hughes if he can get it together the Yankees have some really nice young pitchers.

I'm just hoping Buchholz can get healthy and back to his form of a couple of years ago!

I have a feeling that Pujols contract will be looking awful in a few years. It's really crazy the amount of money that gets thrown at elite players these days. As a Blue Jays fan, I feel very fortunate to have Bautista locked up at 13 million a year for another 5 years. If he had become a Free Agent this season, he could have very well broken 200 million as well.

As a Marlins fan, I question the value Jose Reyes brings to the team. I think that money could have been better used, but I guess it's good to see the Marlins finally making big moves. Still really upset we couldn't land Pujols, but Reyes was a solid addition.

I really like Heath Bell, however, and think our bullpen finally got the push it needed to help us compete.

So excited for Montero this year. Really sad that he is our biggest threat at the plate... Ackley is awesome, but Montero is gonna be the real deal.

Just think of this middle of the order...
2 - Ackley
3 - Ichiro
4 - Montero
5 - Smoak
6 - Carp

My favorite team the Athletics just signed Manny Ramirez the other day. While I am aware that he still has to serve his 50 game suspension I think this is a no risk/high reward situation for the A's. They signed him to a deal worth just over the league minimum so if he becomes a problem it won't be hard to just cut him. Also, he could bring some power hitting to a line up that needs it desperately! It is kinda sad though, that signing a washed up player who is currently suspended is exciting for fans in Oakland like myself. Oh well, let's go A's!

All of the offseason moves were great -- especially my Yankees getting rid of A. J. Burnett!

I liked Montero's bat, but the Yankees are overflowing with bats and catchers. Martin and Cervelli can handle things behind the plate while Romine and Sanchez mature. I'll be complaining when he hits a home run off of us, along with the rest of the Yankee fans.

I liked Noesi. I watched him dominate the Orioles for the win in that fifteen-inning marathon (you know, where A. J. Burnett pinch-ran). You don't get an MLB debut better than that. However, with Pineda and Kuroda on the staff, there just wasn't room for another starter.

That's a great heart of the order. Think that lineup can get the Mariners back to the Griffey/Martinez-era domination?

Great post! I agree it has been an interesting offseason. Cant wait for the season to get started. I wish my MN Twins would have had a good offseason, we didnt acquire any big names :(
