i swear, everytime one of the 'lings do their cd-roms on the computer, it goes haywire. last month i had to reinstall the video drivers, or something to that effect, and today after a rousing blue's clues session, i got told "it freezed."
after getting the dreaded blue screen and some wacked-out "fatal exception oe has occurred" error, i could no longer access the internet - i had to reinstall internet explorer.

maybe somebody should move this to tech. forum
gads, i have to hurry up and finish typing this before i get that blue screen again. heh. the next time you hear from me might be at the library if this computer at home keeps failing.
any suggestions as to what this might be? does this mean i'm going to be abducted soon? probed?

spider> There was a well publicized issue regarding Win98 and the K6-2 processor above a certain speed. There was a timing issue where it would cause data corruption, which would lead to lost data and system crashes.
Microsoft released a patch on their site which should correct the problem. I'm not 100% sure if it's isolated to Win98SE, or if it affects Win98.
Another possibility is flaky RAM. I've seen many a fatal exception be caused by RAM which is going bad. It may seem functional, but when it has to write to that small portion that's faulty, all hell breaks loose.
There's a utility out there called Memtest. Do a search for that on Google and it will turn up a bunch of hits. Let it go through it's paces and it will tell you if the RAM is failing.

heh, don't cheer for me just yet. This is a stab in the dark. Obviously, something is wrong on some level of your system. This is just a way of either a) determining that it's your RAM, or b) eliminating the RAM from the list of possible faults.
There is the very real reality that Memtest won't turn up a single problem, but at least you'll know that your RAM is good.

i let it run for about three hours last night. i've got 96 megs/ram, but it said to put in 32/megs for machines running w/windows 9x. nuttin showed up.

yesterday i also dowloaded netscape 4.77 and ie 5.5, so after all that i hope this thing doesn't decide to take a nosedive again
