Do you sell your kids/ grandkids fundraiser stuff ?

We have a family on our street that we support their daughter for cheerleading & their son for football (they sell those cards, the girl sold little caesar stuff for cheerleading).

But only after I spoke with their ma & know they are keeping up their grades :snicker:

Now when they come it's "Miz S--- my May GPA was 3.8 and I have this card to sell for football and I thank you for supporting me since I was in jr high I will have ma call with my midterm marks......" They are VERY respectful and I LOVE supporting them :)

I hate those discount cards. I also dislike selling crap for the school. If you want to raise money come up with a better way. Im not asking people to buy over priced wrapping paper. The one thing that I will do is Market Day because I like some of the stuff they sell and I feel like Im doing my part.

We buy those things from the kids in the neighborhood but I usually don't buy from the people who sit outside the grocery store. I don't know them! That takes a lot of nerve for that grandma to ask strangers to buy the stuff.

And in general no, I do not do any of the school fundraisers (except a little Market Day) except for the sports kids I mentioned before because except for sports (those funds are used for uniforms & equipment & busing), the funds from wrapping paper, flowers, and everything else goes toward gifts for teachers and parties. They make it seem like those funds are benefiting the school but they are not really benefiting the school, per se.

I really do think the kids should sell on thier own, thinking back man the leasons I learned from selling. One year we (my brother and I ) had world's finest candy bars to sell for school (I think we were in the 1st and 3 rd grade) We pulled the wagon around our neighborhood (in the country (suburbs) and hit every house and sold quit a few. Then we walked to where they were building a new Howard Johnsons and sold to the construction guys (JACKPOT) after a while the supervisor of the project told us we could not come on the consruction site...soooooo we stood on the edge of the field with a full wagon daily and sold out everyday, they would walk over and buy.

Then I remeber when the had a newspaper drive for every 25 pounds of newspapers you brought in you would get a coupon for a FREE CHIPS hamburger... we had 2 weeks to get ready, so Rick and I hand printed letters for every household we could walk to (even ones in the city that we were not supposed to go into) so that Saturday came and Rick and I heaed out.. we won the contest got enough coupons for hamburgers to feed our whole school with. (my mom would not let us kids eat chips burgers until we got sick, so she decided to order all the burgers and bring them to the school)

what life leasons learned and the only thing my parents did was allow us the freedom to figure it out ourselves.
I relise that now a days you can't allow your kids out by themselves at that age, back then it was allowed but the kids can do more then what most have to do now.

Loved those candy bars!!!! What do they cost now?

I think we had a straight free hamburger from McD's.

Nope. Grandma does. :snicker:

Yes, the wrapper coupons are kinda BS though. Something like $1 off 24oz drink wyb foot long @ Subway.

I miss the good old days of free hamburger at McD's and those chocolate bars of goodness for $1

I used to take the buy out when DD had to sell for cheerleading so we didn't have to traipse around hawking the wares du jour. Best $80 I ever spent :bowing:

Fund raisers are so hard---we just have the kids ask grandparents and close friends--if they want them--great. We always have them say it is ok to say No--if you dont need wrapping paper--we have a relative who asks us to bring it--that is the only wrapping paper they will use--
When it comes to scouts--it is so hard because the stuff is so expensive--you use to be able to buy cheap popping corn so at least you tried--now the cheapest items are out rageous--
We usually try and budget to buy from the football players etc--so many people have helped us out we try to help them out too
DD sells to go on the mission trips--but at least it is garden flowers that you might be buying anyway--and after you take the half off you get for your portion of the tax donation--(can only deduct the part that goes to the charity) then it is about the same as buying from Home Depot etc--and most are willing to help. I do ask lots of people to help with that one because it is over 500 to go--and she is helping poor people etc (she couldn't go otherwise)
The magazines, wrapping paper etc--we just do what we can--but I do agree--the child should be close--or at least come in and say thank you
My oldest children had it where one took the orders and the other delivered--and said the thank yous!
We still are trying to get the thank yous out from the mission trip flowers---so behind because we are personalizing each one--but they did the selling and they did say thank you when they dropped them off!

I hadn't clicked on this topic yet but wondered about it since all I saw under the last post section was:

Do you sell your kids/ :dunce:

And my answer is no, but my kids are still young at 6 and 4. I'm sure I will have to sell something at some point in their school/athletic career and when it's time, I will probably buy it all and then everyone of my family or friends is getting chocolate or nuts or wrapping paper or magazines for Christmas and they'll just have to be happy with that!

Yea I help. But never at store fronts or door to door. Only a few close friends and relatives. We help each other kids by buying their really overpriced stuff that we don't need.
