I drink far too much coffee, like 10-20 cups per day. It makes me feel tired often, but after a few hours of going without coffee, I begin to feel withdrawals.

I've begun drinking tea again to replace at least some cups of coffee with something else.

Does anybody know how to rid yourself from coffee addiction entirely?

I fear I might die sooner or later of a heart attack or a stroke if I don't stop drinking coffee.

(lol, I'm also a smoker, but coffee is worse to me than cigarettes, but I have to stop that as well)

I'm in the same boat as you Monster. In the morning it's a pot of coffee. Afternoon and evening is Iced Coffee and sometimes at night it's Iced Coffee with Kahlua.

I'm no help but I'll be an addict with you. :D

I used to drink about 6 to 8 cups a coffee a day. I like my coffee just right, not too weak or to strong. I do drink tea as well and then one day I woke up and drank tea instead of coffee. I only drink coffee when I go out with my hubby for that relaxing ride in the evening.

Perhaps if you make the coffee to weak or to strong you'll dislike it enough that you'll switch over to tea.

Having that amount of coffee in a day isn't good for you. Let us know what you plan to do. I wish you luck Monster.

Try to drink something else instead with the same effect like green tea for example.

That's what I'm currently trying to do: Green tea, and limit coffee intake.

Interestingly, I found out that after having an Asian noodle soup, I cannot drink coffee straight afterwards. Usually my stomach wants a cup of coffee after even the slightest meal.

Switching over to tea may be a good idea. Unfortunately, some of the effects you'll experience while trying to break your coffee habit will not be very pleasant, especially since you drink a very large amount of coffee, and also due to the fact that you get withdrawal symptoms after just a few hours.
The best thing for you to do would be to gradually reduce your coffee intake per day- drink a little less coffee every few days, and over time you won't feel the need to drink do much of it. Replace some of these cups of coffee with tea instead. This would be the best way to go about it- remember that suddenly quitting something like that is no good for you.
Good luck! Let us know how this works out for you.

I like my coffee just right

Me too, I only drink black instant coffee. I usually can't take the bacteria and stuff that accumulate in coffee machines of various types.

one day I woke up and drank tea instead of coffee

Interesting, I hope that happens to me as well. In some countries, like Japan, some people get by without drinking coffee at all.

Unfortunately, I've been drinking coffee since I was a toddler ... my parents didn't think not to give me coffee. Same with alcohol ... lol, I'm glad I only rarely drink alcohol.

Perhaps if you make the coffee to weak or to strong you'll dislike it enough that you'll switch over to tea.

I don't know if that would help. I already drink comparatively weak coffee (compared to what I drank years earlier). Perhaps thinning it out further would help. I already vary the strength by using different cup sizes and always the same amount of coffee granulate.

Thank you. :)

I'll be trying to drink more tea.

That's true, I get headaches in the morning if I don't drink coffee. Often I can't stomach food if I don't have a coffee after the meal. My brain begins to feel awkward if I don't drink coffee frequently enough. Plus, I'm often tired and drink coffee to stay awake, but often it also makes me tired.

Coffee is one of the most vile drugs ... lol

Yeah ... if I can gradually reduce coffee intake, I might someday be able live without it.

Thank you, I will! :)

Just stop.

That is what I did for smoking and I do it with coffee from time to time.

This is much easier said then done for most people though..I don't know how I do it...lol

It's called will power. It's hard to break a habit but only you can do. If you're determined to break this habit it will happen.

Try to drink something else and whenever you want to drink coffee try to make yourself busy and eat something else.

Turns out the solution indeed was simply to stop drinking coffee first thing in the morning. lol

Today, I don't have coffee for, like, the first time in 30 years, b/c my car didn't work yesterday night when I ran out of instant coffee powder, so I couldn't get any, and I'm feeling great so far! :)

I'm simply drinking hot water sans the coffee (I don't like tea so that's the only solution, if I want a hot, water-based beverage).

Dang, as soon as I began to miss the rich taste of coffee, it was over! ;)

Now I have decaf at least in addition to the regular one, so I might be able to reduce my caffeine intake at least. ;)

Glad to hear you are making some progress, Monster! :) Decaf should probably do the trick- you can get the flavor of coffee without the caffeine addiction. You're doing the right thing by gradually reducing your caffeine intake, though.
And a tip: If you ever do stop drinking coffee one day and want a hot water-based beverage, putting honey in the hot water can add some flavor (if you like honey that is!)- it has a slight flavor, not overly sweet, and it's quite nice.
