On my way to work today- I swear everyone I saw in their vehicle was talking on a cell phone.

cell phones + driving = not cool. unless they have the cool hands free dealies, that make it look like they are yelling at themselves :). still dangerous but at least funny. it's always comforting to be on the highway and see people eating lunch, reading maps, putting their feet up (i've seen drivers do this!), putting on makeup...seen it all, freaks me out every time.

Yeah- that's crazy... I guess I shouldn't complain about cell phones then. Actually my hubby has it down to a science- where he can use his knee to steer the car so he can do something else with his hands. No wonder I can't stand his driving!!!

Lol ym dad can do that. I hate seeing ppl driving with fones just so annoying and then they wonder how they were in a accident *mutters*

hehe, sounds like you've had a bad experience there nightwolf :)

I don't like the government getting involved on such a petty thing. What about changing the radio station when you are driving. What about eating. Are you going to remove all the radios and drive-thrus? It is silly. But, driving is not a right, so the government does have the authority to regulate it as they see fit. So, they have the right to do it, I just think it is stupid.

I'm not comfortable with using my cell phone and driving, but sometimes it can't be helped. I try to pull over as often as I can, but that's not always convenient.

I don't think they should be banned all together while driving. I just think sometimes people need to use better judgement. One particular car irritated me the other morning- I was stopped next to her at a light. A lady was driving and was talking on her cell phone. In the back seat she had two little girls (1st or 2nd graders). The girls weren't buckled in either- I could tell by how they were propped up in the back seat. I don't know why it bothered me so much. I guess I just think it would be nice to actually talk to your kids / pay attention to them, while on the way to dropping them off at school for the day. Of course I have no idea what the situation was....it just bothered me.

Yea Rascal I've had a few accidents with people driving while im in teh car and nearly getting me killed....not good i can tell you

i think i have to agree with the White Man. despite driving being a privilege that has to be earned, i don't think that the government should be interfering. i think it falls on the individual to realize what is dangerous behaviour. personally, radio is ok to me, but when you are starting to do things that require your attention and hands for extended periods (eating, cell phones, applying makeup), just don't do it. it's impossible to enforce through police and whatnot, but it's a common sense thing. sometimes there are extenuating circumstances where there is an emergency and perhaps you may need to call someone or take a call, but the key is EMERGENCY. if it's something that is not a life or death situation, i can't agree with it. i know my dad takes care of lots of business calls while driving because "there's nothing else to do with that time, it gets wasted", but by the same token while he is taking these calls he's missing turns and driving more aggresively AND dangerously than when he isn't on the phone.

Hmm true it's not exactly realistic for the government to interfere and your talking about common sense...ok fair enough it is the simple eating, applying make-up being on the fone etc. is a bad idea when driving not too sound too harsh but there is always going to be people on the roads who somehow pass their driving tests and don't have any COMMON SENSE :)

hehe, we need to have a common sense test! it would have to be like a surprise test that you don't know you are taking so that people aren't prepared for it lol. that's the big prob with driving tests, people drive differently in their test so that they can pass, they get their liscense and they just stop caring. we need to have surprise tests!!

Great idea ! hehe that would be funny and possibly make the roads that tiny bit safer if no one knew aboutthe surprise test but if everyone had to have a surprise test it would stop it from being a surprise because people would tell each other *sigh*

Not just for driving, we should have these for everything. Especially for shopping, I work in retail If I have to answer one more rediculous question I might start answering with slaps.

To be honest, I don't think it's the cell phone that's the problem, it's the person on the cell phone, there are some people who can multi-task really well, and are able to talk on the phone without looking at it, and then there are some retards driving on the other side of the road dialing their friend to tell them that they just ran a red light and some jerk who wasn't paying attention almost hit them.

I have seen some near misses when a driver is so into his/her conversation on the cell . I am very curious to know if a study on how many fatalities on the roads and highways were the direct result of talking on a cell while operating the vehicle.
