Well, I have two comments for those who think the country will go down the tubes with George W. at the helm.

George W. is NOT at the helm. Our government has checks and balances that are designed to eliminate tyranny.

Think about Slick Willy. The country prospered with that loon in office.

If he couldn't screw it up, George W. sure can't. I personally don't think we are going down the tubes.

Nap, the government type and the political parties are different things. Words such as democrat(ic), republic(an), liberal and conservative all have different meanings depending on context. It is fairly complicated. Essentially Democrat and Republican (big letters) are political party names that don't mean a whole lot whereas democracy and republic (small letters) are government types. In fact there used to be one democratic-republican party that eventually split. Which is a story for another time...
