WaterB> Heck, just about every benchmark I've seen has the T-bird 1.2 neck and neck or beating the P4 1.4 and 1.5.
Check Tom's Hardware, Anandtech, and Ars Technica, among others, for some benchmark results.

I stated this in another thread. 2 big things hamper the P4's performance. One is the 20 stage pipeline and the other is the 8Kb of L1 data cache (the instruction cache doesn't exist, as we know it).

The problem with extending pipelines way out is the increased penalty incurred with a branch prediction miss. The P3 and Athlon, both with smaller pipelines, have a lower penalty, and thus they will perform way better on a clock for clock basis in the average case.
