What do you think of the extra wildcard team (play in game) setup that the MLB is implementing? Personally I think it gives more teams/fans a reason to stay interested for longer, but it's ultimately a band-aid on a broken system IMO.

I think what really needs to happen is removal of divisions. The AL East, for example is totally brutal for Toronto, TB, and Baltimore. Compare that to the Central where there are rarely two good teams. If this were fixed it would do more than adding extra wildcards, in my opinion.

I don't disagree with this idea at all. Still the higher market teams will dominate usually unless they have more playoff teams.

Why not give it a try overall, and see if it brings in more revenue for the teams. The only side to caution is, these guys are the hardest working sports guys out there; 162 games a year. So are we going to extend the season, or shorten the regular season, and longer playoffs? I still think its worth a try. Fans would like it I think. more teams can brag they made the playoffs

I said this in another post but realignment or just having the AL and NL would be better. Keep the divisions just because it will help promote regional rivalries, but when it boils down if the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays are the top three teams then they go to the playoffs. I hate seeing these loser teams go on a hot streak and make waves in the playoffs. Everyone forgets the garbage they laid out the last 6 months and a team that deserves it gets screwed.

The way it is right now allows teams to be rewarded for playing in weak divisions. They can limp along all season but the AL East has to bust their backs until the last game.

I agree. Not sure what needs to be done to fix it, but I like the idea of the extra wild card for now. It will at least make it more interesting!

I'm for it. The single-game playoff is kind of like football playoffs, which could be interesting, and might draw in some local non-baseball fans -- "Oh hey, our local baseball team finally made it to the playoffs!"

I'm a big fan of the best-of-X format, and the winning team will be screwed by going into the DS with less rest; however, I still see this as a positive.

In sixteen seasons, five wild cards have won it all, so it still could be anyone's game.

I know why they did it, the almighty dollar, but I dont like it. Cheapens being division winners. I say that knowing that my Cardinals came out of the current WC and won it all. Still dont like it.

I really do think that just ignoring division winners and taking the teams with the best record is the best solution. It seems silly to take a team simply because of an arbitrary division even if that team is clearly not on the level of another team that misses the playoffs.

I like the idea. It brings more excitement to the game. The downfall is one team can have a great regular season and lose the game. They could not be at their best and it is all thrown away since they have one bad game.

Derek Jeter? Is that a joke? I probably wouldn't take Jeter in the first five rounds, let alone first.

I think I'd have to go with Miguel Cabrera. The added protection with Fielder in the lineup is simply too intriguing. A lot of people probably prefer Tulowitzki at this position, but I think Cabrera is about to do some major damage.

A side note, where do you guys see Hanley Ramirez falling? Does his drop in production last year mean he'll drop from many first rounds?

I don't know how I feel about this yet. While it would make for some interesting scenarios in the NL the AL would basically mean the Red Sox, Rays and Yankees would all be in line to get playoff berths (if recent seasons served as a guide). Then it seems like that would be somewhat of a matchup nightmare assuming none of those 3 teams have the best overall record in the AL.

I'm still on the fence about it. It could be a good idea in theory but maybe wouldnt look so great in practice.

The playoffs definitely needed to be expanded. The AL East in particular is just not even fair. The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays are generally all Playoff worthy. You also have the Jays who are getting better and will be contending very soon too. I'd prefer a 3 game format, but 1 game playoff is better than nothing.
