Well I seriously doubt that the American Civil Liberties Union would be involved since no civil liberties have been violated. I'm pretty sure the US constitution doesn't apply to animals other than humans.
Of course, We're all just Humans. And cannibalism and inter-species warfare are hardly unique to us. So why don't I go shoot some old folks for sport? I mean, they're at the sunset of their lives and not really providing anything useful in our current society. I'd eat them but they're rather gamey at that age. I'll pop the young'uns if I feel a mite peckish. But of course there's no sport in hunting the 'weak'. I'll go after the teenagers. They're quick what with all that adrenaline brought about by abject terror. The Hunt... is on.:bs:
Humans are animals too. The only thing that places us "above" other animals of this world is our sentience. If some people choose to fight for rights for animals well, then jolly good for them. If other people choose to go about willy nilly killing every moving thing in sight, well then jolly good for them too. The common census appears to be: War, murder, and human cannibalism are bad. So too are forcing species to become extinct. The reasoning behind this being that wee disrupt our world and our lives when this behaviour occurs, and now more and more people are realising just how important the ecology of the Earth is to Human survival. I should actually say, rediscovering.
I'm sure the lonely fish does experience some torture being taken out of its natural environment. I've fished commercially, we did it to put food on the table and food on other people's tables. I'd have more respect for sport fishing if it weren't some yuppy spending bazillions of dollars to come North to some lodge or somesuch and fishing for salmon on a little boat and call it an adventure. A whole season on a gillnetter is an adventure.
