I don't know why, but there are times the rich and famous get my sympathy. Giuliana and Bill Rancic are at the top of my list today. On the surface the have it all - money, fame, fortune - a lifestyle that most would envy.

Yet they have been unable to conceive, or at least have a pregnancy go to term and today Giuliana announced she has breast cancer. Money truly can't buy you everything.

OMGosh I hadn't heard that. They've been through so much trying to get preggers and dealing with her weight issue. I've always liked her (him notsomuch). :pout:

I don't follow either of them that much, but did see the announcement. It was very sad and I do feel so bad. The upside, she was able to find out at a very early stage. She said that this baby saved her life.

when I hear they had an announcement I figured that it was that she was pregnant........then I clicked the link and it was like 'awwww man'

Anyone who has to deal with that awful "C" word will get my sympathy. Poor lady ... I hope they caught this early enough and she can still have her babies someday.

A part of me wonders if the rounds of IVF had something to do with it. All those hormones and drugs they give you, day after day after day. One of my best friends did 3 rounds of IVF and was diagnosed with cancer shortly afterwards too at the age of 36. It's just so sad overall.

I was thinking the same thing. So sad though.

It is connected to the IVF. They wouldn't let her do round #3 until she was checked out. That's why they caught it early.

When she said the doctor insisted I just knew that the doctor knew that it must be a side effect of all those hormones in the body all at once.

I had tears in my eyes when I saw the clip. I feel so bad for her.

So for those couples that can't conceive naturally, if you go the route of IVF, you have to risk exposing yourself to some form of cancer ... so incredibly sad.

I finally watched the video and I found it interesting that her doctor wanted a mammo at 40. My doc actually wanted me to have my mammo at 35 and no, I do not have any family history. So I did have it shortly before I turned 36 but wonder what others experiences have been. I know some doctors say 40 but I know I've heard others say 35.

So sad, I didn't realize that it could be a possible side effect of ivf. I hope they consider adopting. I think they would be good parents.

"Giuliana said of her decision to proceed with the aggressive surgery after her initial lumpectomy did not successfully remove all of the cancer from her breast."

She is lucky it was caught early and that she was smart enough to get checked, and not stick her head in the sand.

Now the question is how big to go with the implants.

A friend decided on a double mastectomy as well after her breast cancer showed up in her 2nd breast 10 years ago. Her reconstructive surgeon suggested she go out and buy Playboy & a few other boobie magazines [she wasn't comfortable looking at pics online] to select the size & shape she wanted for her new boobs. She spent 2 weeks checking out photos of topless women & asking friends for advice. She ended up selecting Bs. LMAO

ITA both Bill and Giuliana do so much charity work and they deserve to become parents. I feel so bad for both of them. They are totally down to earth and I sure hope that they will get pregnant in the new year.
