A challenge for the poets and wordsmiths amongst you... Haiku.

For anyone who doesn't know, it is a traditional form of Japanese poetry which has been somewhat altered by English translation. There are some basic rules to the most common form, as follows:

Use no more than 17 syllables in total
Arranging these often in lines of 5-7-5 syllables
Avoiding similes and metaphors
Retaining Japanese values

If you are interested in reading some traditional Japanese Haiku, these guys are some of the greatest according to fans of the form -
Basho, Issa and Buson.

So, with these rules in mind, I propose we start us a Haiku thread. Each poster should write their Haiku, then suggest (with one word only) the topic for the next one.... I will start with this humble offering about the subject at hand!

It is poetry
But not as we know it Jim
All short and tidy

The word for the next topic....... Fruit

(Remember, it's 5-7-5 syllables :) ENJOY!!)

The old haiku threads seems to have gone quiet, and moreso it doesn't have the last writer suggesting the topic for the next one, which is the challenge :)

Can we still play? If so, you didn't leave a word for the next one lobo!

Word?! go on, you know you want to... he he
