When I was a child in Tennessee, I raised chickens for 4-H. But comically, but not so for the chickens, things went wrong. They went blind and shook their heads all the time. Must have been some disease. Anyway, I'm wondering if it could have been preventable.

No, I’ve never personally raised chickens but I’m sure it would be very handy to have chickens if you wanted to get free eggs. Although it wouldn’t be free as you’d have to pay to care for the chickens to keep laying. Having said that you would be able to have chicken for dinner once they’ve served their purpose! Thinking practically of course.

This is an excellent question! I also live in Tennessee and my family raises various types of birds. We have different breeds of chickens, guineas, turkeys, and ducks. We normally bring in around one to two dozen eggs per day. Personally, I'm not too fond of chickens, they're very dirty critters, but they will definitely feed you when you're hungry.

No, I haven't ever had chickens but I have looked after my friends rescue chickens a few times. I found it really odd looking after animals that I couldn't really pet as such, but the fresh eggs were definitely a bonus!!

I have raised chicken. I raised chickens so that I could eat fresh eggs and meat. However, when the hens began laying eggs, I felt that I should let the eggs hatch so that I could have more chickens. By the time I had a lot of chickens, I did not like eating them because I could not be so cruel killing the birds I raised myself.

I started poultry farm when I was still 14 years old with 10 chickens. I was very fortunate enough for all of them to survive for 4 months before I had them sold. Now, my farm contains 200 chickens.

I have never raised chickens myself, no. I have in the past visited places that have raised chickens and have learned a lot about raising chickens but I have never had the want to have my own and raise them. I guess it would be great if you did have the ability to do so as you would either have eggs for yourself or you could even sell eggs as a business as well.
