Hate Crimes - A crime only WHITE PEOPLE are charged with

No, Mustang you are not babbling. I can't imagine the full extent of what happened to you, but I do feel for you. This "Hate Crime" crap has gone far enough. People have fought for decades for equal rights and equality in general. I have a friend (he's black) who was pulled over on the highway (and from what he told me and where he was traveling, I have to believe he was pulled over BECAUSE he was black) and detained for an unreasonable period, had his person and car searched and was let go without even a hello, goodbye or go screw yourself. Hate Crime laws have done nothing more than keep the gap wide between the races, instill fear, apprehension and distrust among people who should live and work together peacefully. Weren't Hate Crime laws mostly developed to protect homosexuals?

Hate crimes laws are not exclusively enforced against white people. In several cases (usually violence against homosexuals) African-Americans or Hispanic-Americans have been arrested. This does not, however, change the underlying problem with hate crimes legislation.

Hate crimes legislation is not, in my opinion, bad because it unfairly targets white people or men or straight people. It is bad because it suggests that certain motives for crimes are worse than others. Prejudice and hatred are not any more deserving of punishment than the psycho-sexual anger of a spurned spouse, or the cold self-interest of a contract killer. While the circumstances of a crime should always be considered, the motive for a crime should not be given more weight than the manner of its commission, the offender's intent, or the level of pre-meditation.

Hate crimes laws are very politically popular, so again I'm in the minority opposing them, but they are simply unnecessary. We shouldn't punish people for what they think, only for what they do.

Thank you, jatkins - very nicely put. "Hate crime" laws serve no purpose - get tough on EVERY crime, let everyone feel equal and work hard to make our society a better place to exist in.

You will find that this happens a lot with me. You'll hate me half the time, and love me the other half. It's the life of a moderate.

People at my school really don't judge too much on whether your black or white, but I do see it happen. Me and a couple of black girls bout got into it last year. It was the end of the day, and it had been a reasonably good day, when we had to go to clubs. I hated going, cause I had no friends in there except my ex, who hated me for dumping him. So I go in, sit in a desk at the very back right corner. I have a few minutes before the tardy bell rings, so I get up, put my backpack in the seat (which has in big letters written JESSIE.) I go and come back and a bunch of black girls start putting desks together near my desk, but no one had bothered mine, so I go to sit down. I move my bookbag, and am like on my way to sitting my butt in the chair when they start pulling it in there circle. Well I'm not one to take crap from people, so I say 'I'm sitting here'. And this one fat girl who obviously doesn't take showers says 'I didn't see you.' in this really snobby, ****y tone. And I said, 'well that's your problem, cause this is my desk.' Then she starts snatching on it, and I put my foot where she can't get it and sit down. Then her and a bunch of other girls start talking **** behind me, and I pretty much ignored them for a few minutes, then I got tired of it and said something, then one of them said 'You better shut ur skinny **** up' and now remember..the teacher is standing on the other side of the class doing practically nothing bout it, even tho they're sitting there hurling cuss words at me. Then me and two of the other girls get called for detention (not for that tho, it was something we had done prior to that) and so we got to the normal detention room and the fat one walks behind me and starts steppin on the back of my shoes, and i turn around and she steps all up in my face and there is another teacher standing about 9 feet away and doesn't say anytihng but 'come on girls.' so i turn around and walk into the class when we have to go to a different one. so I walk to the other classroom with no problem, then Tasha, and Ginger (the two blacks) stand facing each other in the door frame when the bell rings, and I shoved past them( no wayin hell I was gonna say exuse me) and Tasha tried to trip me but i stepped over her foot. Then she stepped out into the hall and said something, I said something back she pushed. I didn't budge (she wasn't the fat one..she had run off.) And I took a step towards her and pushed her back with all the strength I had. she fell back, she was bout to go for a slap..i saw it comiing and was about side step and punch her when My friend Angel comes up, pulls me back and tells me 'it ain't even worth it. We only got two more days, and if u get suspended now, you'll fail ur exams. so I tell her, her **** **** better not touch me again, and walk off. Now I only use that word in really extreme situations. It's not like I think of very black I see that. So she talked ****t about me with all her friends, and I ignored it.....and so far, I've managed to control myself.

I would be very careful using that word in the situation you were just in. Had you said this in a NYC school, you would have very likely been arrested for a "Hate Crime".

Now, do I think you should have been? No. But what I think, and what you think, does not matter when it comes to the law. Just a friendly warning. :eusa_ange

When I lived in Pittsburgh, I had many black friends. There were times jokingly and all in fun, we would call each other names and no one dreamed that it was a "Hate Crime". A prime example - one would call and ask "Hey, Cracker, how's it shaking?" I would respond "If I had the rhythm you have, ****, everything would be shaking!" Then we'd laugh and think nothing of it. One of my other black friends was called "Oreo" by his black brothers because they claimed he was a black man that thought white. There never was "hate" in the statements. In fact my black friends, more often than not, called each other ****. Big deal. It was never meant to harm anyone.

A good Quebecois friend of mine allows me to make "frog" jokes at his expense, because he says I'm "the only anglo who can do it right!" Not really tha same as calling someone a ****, but along the same principle.

Another friend of mine has a black father and a white mother. My friend is fair-skinned, while all her sisters are have dark skintones. Her father refers to her as his "white daughter." She uses the word **** and other such references just like any other black person though...What would happen if she was ever overheard and arrested for a hatecrime? Would she have to get her black family to come in to prove that she's "black" so it's ok?

Thanx for the warning Nova. I know, I could have been arrested. At that point I really didn't care though. It was in the heat of the moment, and as childish as this sounds...she started it. I do have black friends tho, so don't get me wrong.

no matter what race you are a crime of that nature is just wrong. That goes both ways you do know that right. I'm sitting here reading some of the replies and some are just silly. We all know that even though what the people wasn't right, it has been done to black and many other races by whites, but if it hits too close to home and it's reversed the world is coming to an end. Pull you heads out of your butts and call it what it is a crime.

Heh, I get this too. People tell me to pick a side all the time, and I tell them I have: mine. I don't need someone else telling me what to think, so some things I agree wtih one side on & some things I agree with the other side. Want to know what's really sad? When I turned 18 I registered to vote, and registered Republican. Know why? I liked the sound of it at the time better than Democrat. I still am one now. Why? Because I'm in the military & Republicans give us better pay. :p But I side with Democrats on issues fairly often as well. I can kind of relate to Reagan there, if I recall correctly he was orginally a Democrat who was told he tended to sound like a Republican. Eventually he agreed & changed parties but still had Democratic tendencies on some things. He was a great president though (from what little I can remember from then) so the Republicans generally seem to overlook that.

I've had great friends from about every race. I've also seen people from about every race be racist. The interesting thing is yeah a lot of whites have been racist, but it seems most other races are typically racist against whites. Some have reason, some don't. By reason I mean personal reason, not the bit with something that happened to someone 100 years ago that doesn't really apply now. I've heard of quite a few instances like the one in that article, with the same result. It's about the equivalent of a man claiming to have been raped by a woman. He'd get looked at like he was some kind of idiot. It could happen though (I've seen some tiny men & some huge women, it could definitely happen by force as well). When it comes to equal treatment it needs to be completely equal. Get rid of things like a Negro scholarship as mentioned before & make a scholarship for all under a certain income bracket or such. If things are as bad as are claimed, most of it would still go to underpriviledged minorities. Get rid of Women's Studies, and make it Human Studies. Spend a semester on men & a semester on women. That sort of change needs to go all the way up the chain, but I don't see it happening unfortunately. A crime's a crime but in 'civilized' society apparently it isn't always a crime.

Non-Bias Attack

Invoking the name “Martin Luther King†and screaming “Black Power!†a gang of up to 30 black teens attacked four white girls in Marine Park in what police are saying is not a bias crime.

The March 30 attack was a hot topic at state Senator Marty Golden’s recent public safety forum.

According to witnesses and parents of the victims, four young girls from St. Edmund’s had the day off from school due to Easter recess. They were playing basketball during dismissal from nearby Marine Park Junior High School, when several Marine Park students demanded to use the court.

After adults intervened and asked them to wait their turn, the teens left - but returned in a pack of up to 30, both boys and girls, and stormed into the park.

Witnesses say the attackers were all black and called their victims “white crackers†during the bloody melee, which raged for almost 20 minutes.

“This is not being looked at as a bias crime,†NYPD Deputy Inspector Kevin McGinn said at the meeting.

“When I pulled my car up to the park, I witnessed a pandemonium I’ve never seen in my life,†said Debbie, a mother of one victim who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

Her daughter ran to the car, screaming, “They’re going to kill us,†Debbie recalled. My daughter was so scared and kids were running around like crazy.

Pursued by dozens of teens, some of the girls were “literally running into traffic to save their lives,†she said.

One girl made it as far as a nearby house, but was dragged by her hair back into the playground by a “wolf pack of children,†Debbie said.

The St. Edmund girls were bleeding and beaten to the point where they had cuts, scrapes, footprints and dirt all over them - and the attackers surrounded her car and started pounding on the windows as Debbie tried to herd the terrified children into her vehicle.

Two girls were hospitalized - one with a broken nose and one with a head injury, according to Edith, the mother of another girl.

According to Lt. Mark Molinari, from the 63rd Precinct, five of the assailants, who attend Marine Park Junior High School, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault. But since the attackers are all under the age of 16, they are facing charges in Family Court, and were arraigned last Friday.

“I always felt safe in the area and after hearing about such an incident, you start thinking what else could happen. These situations should not be happening, not in Marine Park, or anywhere else, and the safety of our kids should be of most importance,†said Denise Williams, a parent from Gerritsen Beach.

“It’s getting progressively worse in the community - these types of gangs are not only taking away our parks, they‚re ruining our neighborhoods,†said parent Cathy Miller.

“Nobody expects their child to go to a park and get beaten, with footprints on her head and arm, everyone just wants their child to be safe,†said Edith. “Everyone should have the right to be safe from teens, to small kids, to seniors, to mothers with strollers, no one should fear of being beaten while enjoying a day in the park.â€

Where is 60 Minutes when you need them?

That's not right. If Bias crimes can work one way they should work both ways.

Sadly that seems the way. Good thing i'm moving out of here in another 2 years won't be by all these awful things.

Hard to imagine all that violence. Sorry for your plight!

Where the hell were the parents of these brats?!!!! Stop letting your children run rampid and expect that they are safe or not hurting someone else. Get a grip people, they are kids, they need good examples and supervision!
