How can people afford to do this?

So, how in the world can people afford to do this if it's such a bad economy and everyone's lost billions of dollars in the stock market, etc???
You see them at the restaurants, but do you see them at Great America, or AMC Theatres? Are they in Florida at Disney, or doing a cross-country trip to the Grand Canyon? Are they in Vegas, or Atlantic City? Were all the cars in the parking lot BMW, Mercedes andLamborghini?

You see the people at the restaurants, because it's the only place they can still go ... to just maybe experience the "extravagances" of life.

It sounds like you went to the one by Woodfield, if so there are alot of businesses and hotels in the area, alot of people come from out of town just to go to Woodfield, I don't know why hate the place myself but restaurants around there have good business with business dinners and out of towners.

Yep, it was the one by Woodfield. The restaurants in the Woodfield area are always busy. But we eat out in the Oakbrook area as well and those restaurants are busy too. I'm guessing the the mall traffic brings in a lot of people too.

I choose where I eat out at by the coupon/restaurant.com certificate/etc. that I have.....except when it comes to rib night at J. Alexanders--that's a once or twice a year splurge...

I tried that for a while too but none of the restaurants I like offer coupons or any type of deal really. I do use coupons from time to time (for places like Fridays, Outback, etc) but I've just decided to go where I like the food/atmosphere the best and learn to compromise in other ways. We usually eat out twice a week but on those weeks where I know I want to go somewhere nice, I'll just eat out once that week. Or even skip a week entirely so I can splurge and have a nice meal every other weekend. There are times where we got 3 or 4 weeks without eating out ... it all just depends but we do tend to eat out a lot more when it's warm and the weather is better.

I've never heard of Wildfire until today. :9:

None of those up in Kenosha, huh?

You gotta try it out when you are here in Chicago. They are known for steaks and seafood but they have a pretty good menu. Great seafood bisque, delicious mussels, crab cakes are so good, yummy chopped salad, tender steaks, and a peanut butter cup pie that is the best!

I was just at Disney World 2 months ago. It was May, the so-called off season, but it was still pretty crowded for being off-peak.

 OMG now I'm soooooo hungry! Thanks a lot. :surrender: Peanut butter cup pie is one of my favs!!!

I'm sure some of the people that were there are well off and can afford it. They're probably yuppies or DINKs or business people eating with a company card. Or they might just be like us, a family that budget wells and likes to celebrate or just go out to eat at a nice place as a treat.

I'm also sure that some of the people that were there probably couldn't afford to be eating there and ordering 11.00 martinis and 60.00 bottles of wine. They're probably making minimum payments on their credit cards and have huge car and house payments and would probably be up a river without a paddle if they got laid off anytime soon.

I just find it interesting that they rattle off all these dire unemployment numbers every single day but nice restaurants like this are packed on a Wednesday night.

The only time I splurge is on "things" … I refuse to pay high prices to **** something out… just sayin :9:

I have said this a million times.... where are the good employees?? Every single business that I deal with are looking for good employees (and non of them are minimum paying jobs) hell even one of our medivac is still looking for a pilot. One of our part time employees is thier only pilot right now and Mike makes 75,000.00 annual they can't find anybody that wants to work 8 on and 6 off for a small wage of 75,000.00 annually.. One of our guys quit no notice (with 6 kids) because one of our customers was working him 12 hours a day for 3 days in a row and I said I don't want to hear it, take the work when it is there .. He does not have a job yet....
Yep sure we are paying his rent food insurance and God knows I am sure they will be the first ones in line for the free school supplies and all the other hand outs.

12 hour days. My DH works that and usually more every **** day but Sunday. My hubby would do well working for you LOL

My DH is a hard worker.. even with being broken… … but lemme tell you 7 years since the last raise and he does MANAGEMENTS job as well as several others…. BULLSHIT I tell you!

I will leave that as that as one of his co-workers is a lurker here

:bowing: I mean really $100 bucks on dinner…. NEVER have NEVER will!

Really? You should try it at least once. A great meal like that can be truly memorable.

When DH and I were dating and before we had kids, we had our share of nice dinners that cost 100 bucks ... we were DINKs, he and I were already maxing out our 401ks, and we had a little extra money so we enjoyed ourselves sometimes. Nothing wrong with it as long as you can afford it.

That is crap.. we give our guys raises when we feel they deserve it most get a raise about every 3 months. usually .25 to 1.50 an hour plus they get tons of other benifits (ie FREE food, H&B, drinks, whatever) I would NEVER EVER not give a raise in 7 years... wow that is so wrong on every level...

really??!!! i would go to Ruth Chris three times a week if i could afford it

best $200.00 i ever spent on dinner

NOPE! I would take that $200.00 and buy my kids a video game… buy a book and have $125.00 left.

I have been to Wildfire 3 times and Big Bowl 1 time. ALL 4 times have been because we get gift cards for lettuce entertain you as my DH's yearly Christmas Bonus. then we only use what's on the card… and let it pay for the tip as well…..

I love food… but I can't justify blowing tons of $$ on a meal.

That's just it we can't… so this is a BIG reason we don't. If I have extra $$ I'd rather spend it on something the WHOLE family can enjoy… KWIM??
