I have a little situation where I'm out of a place to live for 17 days because my dorm is cloing down and I happen to live over 200 miles away from my parents. For some reason, the education department decided that I should begin student teaching during winter break without considering the possibility that some students may not live in an apartment or live outside campus!

Anyway, so now I'm searching frantically for a place that will take me in for those weeks, but it's stressful! Apartments demand that you have to stay for more than a month, Rooms for rent are expensive, but above all, hotels are crazy in how much they charge per day. I know that they are meant to be used for vacationing families and for only a few days at a time, but surely, there are exceptions! Where do these exceptions live? The cheaper motel that's near my area is charging $40 per day! I don't understand it. I know this isn't the 1950's anymore and things don't cost a dollar, but how people even afford to spend a couple days at a hotel, motel, or anything alternative housing is beyond me!

I think that I would rent an apartment for the month, it will probably be cheaper in the long run, and after all, you don't have to stay there for the full month. Maybe someone else might be interested in taking it on for the remaining duration.

do you have any friends living in the area? maybe offer to pay them a "discounted" rent...

surely it has to be cheaper than your other options...

I agree with Mike, and with Upsidaisy - these are both good options.

But i hear you - the price of living is DEBT

Unfortunately, I was informed at the last minute that my winter break would be cut short to student teach. I've only known since a week ago that I wouldn't have a place to stay. I did try craigslist. I never went to that site before and there were a lot of postings, but all too far away for someone without a car. I think I'm going to end up in a motel for those few weeks anyway :( My grandma keeps calling me, telling me I have to prepare for a room full of bed bugs lol.

in ottawa the rent it very high for ****ty apartments my dad pays over a grand to live in a tiny two bedroom with my sister and me and my mom are living in prescott in an apartment with is 950 three bedroom and very spacious two bathrooms beautiful big kitchen amazing view of forest and nature... all i can say is big cities only want to squeeze money out of us any opportunity they can... country life is where its at yo by the way im violet a neeeeeeewb

My husband travels a lot and he tries to find motels/hotels that offer a weekly rate. I would call around to some of the cheaper places and let them know how long you'll be there and see if they'd be willing to work out a discount for you.

Ania, did you ever find a place to stay? I've been thinking about this ever since I first saw this thread. I hope you did. Let us know.
