How new/old is your car?

We have a 2004 Honda Pilot. That's my car. It was my 30th birthday present from DH and we paid cash for it.

We also have a 2002 Volkswagen Passat. Bought it in January of 2002 and financed it for 3 years but we had a 12K down payment (wedding gifts from our 2001 wedding) and I was so happy when we were done paying it off. However, I don't know that I would buy another VW again since DH has had problems with it from the beginning.

We are buying him a new car this year. His current car is just too much trouble at this point and costing us too much. We will probably replace my car in 2 years or so. We are hoping to save up enough money to pay cash for both but I just know we can't do it so we'll have to have car payments again after not having them for over 5 years. I don't like the idea of a car payment again at all! :-(

2001 Ford Focus
2000 Ford Explorer
1997 Pontiac Firebird
1978 Pontiac Trans Am (Bandit)

Too many **** cars. But all the junk is Paid in full.

2001 VW bug with 51,000 miles...my baby is paid in full

2009 mini cooper convertiable...fun but small and we aren't small people. Funny but our "big car" is the VW bug

DS will get licence this fall so we might get something 4 door for him and for familt to use when we all go out.

Mine: 2001 Mercury Sable station wagon with 50k ish miles. Paid cash, bought from a friend's family member that was going into a nursing home. She bought it brand new, only drove it to church and to the grocery store. Sat in her driveway for 3 years. Great find for me!

DH: 2006 Nissan Pathfinder with 120k ish miles. We bought from Enterprise in 2007, took out a 5 year loan, paid off in 3.5 years. The check engine light won't turn off. Every mechanic we take it to (including the dealership) says there's nothing wrong with it and they don't know why it keeps coming on. It's a PITA. Plus, DH doesn't know how to drive (or park). He parks in a parking garage and *insists* "his" spot (there's no assigned parking spots ... it's just where he likes parking) is next to a pole. He has hit it four times while backing out. He broke his passenger side mirror, and has scrapes on the front passenger wheel well, the front passenger side bumper, and the rear passenger wheel well. I refuse to file claims to repair his car if he's just going to park in the same **** spot.

We'll replace his car before mine, but not until it falls apart (AND he learns how to drive) ... hoping to get another 3 years out of it. Our plan is to pay cash for cars from now on.

we have a lotta cars too

me- 2000 Olds Sillouette minivan 170,000 miles we just got it a couple months ago paid $2000 blue book $3500 (dont know why they sold it for $2000)

DH- 1997 f=150 with 225,000 miles that his sister gave us FREE

DSS (we just got his liscence 2 hours ago) 1997 dodge 1500 we paid $700 and DH put a $300 tranny in it

then DH just bought a 1999 F-150 with 100,000 for $1300 we may sell that one

I can honestly tell you I will never have a car payment again the thought gives me hives and makes me hyperventalate

We have a 2004 Toyota Camry which has really low miles as DH drives it to and from the train. Yes, he could take the bus and save us some money, but that conversation didn't go over well.

I drive a 2010 Honda Odyssey. DH insisted on buying a new one since whenever we get a new van the a/c goes out in about 3 years. He wouldn't go for a used one. The car payment is a killer.

Today there is an article in the paper about buying used vehicles. Everyone is buying them and not many are buying used cars. A car that you could sell for $9000 last year, you can get $12,000 for this year.

Here's the article

DH used to drive little cars when he had to drive to Atl daily now he drives to the commuter bus stop and rides to atl he will drive every once and a while like today hes working late or if he has a side job and needs to bring home an a/c unit or something............I dont think he likes the bus, he likes SLEEPING on the bus when hes tired the bus cost us $35 a week but it used to cost $900 just to park a year on Ga Tech campus

i have a 2003 Saturn Vue that i make payments on (bought it March '10) and i'm sure i will drive it into the ground... something like 95000 miles on it

We have two car payments:

2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor (mine)
2009(I think) Ford Focus that we bought new. DH drives over an hour each way to work so we needed a small car.

Between our two car payments and insurance, we pay around $800/mo. just for cars. :surrender:

Can't WAIT to get these ****es paid off. Oh and we'll never pay that much for cars again.......lesson learned.

2001 Honda Odyssey and 1999 Honda civic. We bought them new at the time and tend to drive them for a lng time. We always pay cash for our cars.

We have a 00 Odyssey and an 09 Civic

STUPID clean air thing makes these old dinosaurs a BEAR to own...!

Sometimes I'm glad to live in the middle of no where...our van has some sort of emissions issues and I refuse to fix it. It's a total scam.

Dh read that article and wanted to trade in both of our cars and buy one nice car. HA! Not going back to a 1 car family, no way!
