I recently purchased a DVD player, and get to use it for the first time tomorrow evening amongst family and friends. It took one heck of a hard time to get the model I had my mind set on, so I had better enjoy it!! I just thought I would share...

I purchased the “DV333 Pioneer” model. It came highly recommended and had a decent price.

we have like 8 dvd players in our house (not including my ps2).. my dad stocks the entire region of latin america with marantz stereos (owned by philips and extremely good stuff, hard to find) and since he runs that and is former marantz pres. we get all the newest stuff really really really cheap!! we just got 2 $20,000 tvs for $2,000!!! yep... my dad kicks ****....

Marantz is a great brand. I've still got a extremely heavy stereo receiver upstairs that my dad bough way back when.

Oh, hook me up too, I could use a new TV.

BizkitBabe> Once you truly get the taste of DVD, you'll never go back to video tapes again. I can remember spending $50 on videos and now won't pay $10 for a video when I can pay a little more for DVD.

yeah once you go to dvd, you won't notice the change unless start going back to vhs. Then you'll noticed the slightly blurry picture and the washed out/toodark image, and the flickering noise. It's amazing how much you just accept when you don't know how much better it could be. I'm sure one day we'll look at dvd, and laugh. Mpeg compression, hah!

Plus it's a good investment. VHS tapes only last so long, but DVD's should last quite a while. And even if they don't there should be ways of copying them in the future, given the digital nature.

yeah, marantz stereos are really heavy, especially the new receivers. I was taking one of the new $4000 models out to the car after we finished testing it and i could barely do it by myself and i'm pretty strong. Man that thing was heavy..

Well, after we figured out how to get it to work on my particular television, my first ever encounter with a DVD player was a pleasurable one. If only my best friend hadn’t wanted to play with it as much as he did.

What was I thinking when I thought DVD players were for watching DVDs?!? They are in fact Oversized male playthings.

Actually, most of us come with "Oversized male playthings" pre-installed, but a DVD player is an excellent backup.
