Took my mom to the vascular surgeon yesterday to have her sutures removed and when I looked at them one of the incisions was infected! These incisions are in her groin area and she can not see them.

I had been staying at her house back and forth for the first three weeks after surgery....home health was coming in three times a week...I met all the nurses...it looked to me like they were doing their job. After week three her sutures looked great....so I stopped checking on them and let homehealth care do their job...make sure there was no infection. Within a one week period there is an infection!

**** it! When she ruptured her intestines and they had to cut open her abdomen...she had to heal from the inside out.... they could not stitch her closed because she was sepses. It was a hidious, gaping wound....I took care of her!...I packed her three times a ****ing day for five weeks and the chance of infection was very high!...not one ****ing infection! I take my eye off the ball for a small 5" incision that looked good a week ago!

I can't begin to tell you how upset I was when the doctor was getting ready to take out her stitches....I noticed it immediately!

Heads are gonna roll!

Friday is supposed to be her last day with homehealth care.....they better be there every ****ing day for the next week...because the doctor wants the bandages changed twice a day....and wants to see her again next Wednesday....I'M SO PISSED!:ranting:

Oh, Patty, that's terrible, I'm sorry :huggy: :huggy: :huggy:
I hope it heals soon .... why can't people care enough... be responsible enough, to do their job right?

Are they actually nurses, or are they home health aides? Because aides typically make minimum wage-ish. Part of the seedy underbelly of the system.

Hope it wasn't too much of a setback and that she heals up well!

I'm pretty sure that they are at least LPNs.... not aides. Like I said I was there for the first three weeks...they were doing there job right when I was there and for one week I decide to trust and let them do their job! Now I am feeling guilty....sigh....okay enough of that...other people have it worse...this too shall pass....

Aw man, so sorry. Don't feel guilty, they should have been doing their job. Praying she heals quickly. Hugs to her!

Awww, don't feel guilty. You did your job and the nurses SHOULD have done their job. They also should have noticed the infection and said something!!!!

*hugs* I hope it all works out in the end

:huggy: Prayers for your Momma. Hope she heals quickly.

Sorry Patty, you are probably gonna have to check THEIR work to make sure yourself...you'd be amazed at how neglectful these peeps are...I used to work in a nursing home folks and the neglect I saw literally made me sick to my stomach! So sorry.

Agree they should have been doing their job, they must of thought since you weren't their supervising they would slack off. Sorry this happened, hope your mom heals fast and gets better!

Sorry Patty :huggy: I'm praying for your mom :huggy:

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouraging words....I have real "trust issues" when it comes to people in the medical field doing their jobs....long **** story......when it came to my dad being sick and then dying by suicide....and me being treated like a child when I wanted to know everything about his mental health. I was an annoying bug to them. I know at that time there was confidentiality, but in my opinion he was not capable of making sound decisions by himself. People who are mentally ill will lie when they are alone with their doctors...they will say that they are not suicidal and complete a short time later...I knew it then and still believe it to this day.....If we, as a family, would have known things...he would be here today. Today a family is privy to more information if a person is suicidal..... so they can be gatekeepers..much has changed over the last 13 years and that is a good thing....

The same doctor who told me to get lost waived his bill when he found out he died.

Last week I actually said to myself that I was being too over the top with her after care....and decided to back off...everything looked good...what a difference a week can make....it's not all that bad looking but it "feels" like a big setback in mom's eyes....****ers.

I'm still waiting for a call back from the "coordinator"....I think I will track her **** down!

That's terrible, Patty. I hope she heals quickly. Is the dr concerned about the infection or does he think it will go away quickly?

I guess he is hoping that it will look better in a week...he wants to see her again next Wednesday to make sure that everything is okay....

We get to see his nurse....she is gonna check the incision out....which I am glad because this vacular surgeon is the one that we waited 5 hours to see....at least seeing Vicki....we will be in and out....

Do you know what it is like sitting with a pissed off old lady for 5 hours and then when the doctor finally sees her she is all sweet and ****...

Now when we go and see him I tell her to bring snacks and a drink....it's the only way we get through it...LOL

So sorry you are gong through this, but dont beat yourself up? I know with our ordeal with DH we sit so many times and think why did we trust the doctor, but there is nothing you can change now. Just continue to be the wonderful caretaker you are.

We were soooo back and forth with the vascular surgeon...we did not like waiting for two to five hours in his office for a check up....but....he is a specialist that is not very good at managing his time....we have learned to accept that because even his other patients would tell us he is a wonderful doctor and worth the wait....when my mom told me she wanted another vascular surgeon....I almost wanted to fall over...the thought of going through the process to get another specialist was overwhelming...I'm glad that we stuck with him. I just want her to be 100 percent....well....whatever 100 percent is for a 72 year old woman that never went to the doctor when she was younger.:surrender:....

Well, I'm off to attend to her wounds.....thanks guys for letting me vent...it helped.

YES I understand that. The knee specialist DH sees is the same way, but he is AWESOME! And the nurses and everyone tells him that. Dude does 20 surgeries in one day, he is great! It is worth the wait to see someone who is good at what they do sometimes

Patty,
Give em hell and I am so sorry you had to deal with this. Sucks when you cant take your eyes off them for a minute

I'm sorry this has happened to your mom. It sounds like you are a great daughter and take good care of her. It sucks that other people, who are getting paid for taking care of her, don't give a crap. Hope she heals soon.
