It's on ESPN so it must be a sport, right?

I say, NO, it is not a sport. However, some would disagree. Some are saying it is a sport.

I love Poker; I play poker at my local casino almost everyday. I wish poker was a sport, however, it's not.

Heck no it's not a sport.

It's a game sure. It can be competitive yes. But it's NOT a sport.

That like asking if competitive gaming should be a sport. Which of course, the answer to that too is NO

I think that Poker is a game, like Backgammon and Monopoly.

I'm surprised its still on TV since Pokerstars and Full Tilt got shut down for American players. I would have thought that was where all the advertising revenue comes from when they show it. Poker is a game and requires some mental agility, but its not a physical game apart from being able to sit in a chair for 12 hours.

For me poker it's just a game, and I enjoy playing it online. Too much of the luck needed to be classified as a sport.

LMAO, I want ESPN to start showing Scrabble, Chutes and Ladders, Sorry, Uno, and Go Fish as well.

I think of it as a game as well. I find it so boring. I don't playing a game or two and we get together a few times a year or more but I still find it boring. I just don't have it in me to sit there for hours rattling chips on the table.

Hey, ESPN does show Chess, Billairds and Darts. And ESPN shows Bowling. Is Bowling a sport? Thats kind of iffy. Bowling is a boarderline sport, I suppose.

Poker is not a sport. It is a fun game or hobby to play with your friends, but it is not a sport. A sport is something where you move around or actually do something. I like poker and I am not hating on it, but I just can't consider it a sport.

To me it is a game and yet not a sport. Some times the game name can be both, but I have never heard poker called a sport.

I have to agree with you on this. I don't even consider this a sport. To me it is a betting game that most people played at one time or another, either at home or at a casino. I have played it a couple of time at someone's home. I never played it at a casino though. I think sports stations like ESPN are trying to add as many different types of programming to give different people some options. But as a sport program, I think not, but mainly as a betting game.

No it is clearly not a sport, it is a game of luck and skill.

And yes, just because it's on ESPN does not make it a sport. Just like Ancient Aliens being on the History channel doesn't mean that it's real history :)

Why would it be a sport? It is a card game. There is no athleticism involved.

Exactly. No hands down for this one. It is defiantly not a sport. There is not even have workout for this game, just know what you want to do and how much you want to wager in your hand.

No it's a game. And it relies a lot on pure luck too. You could actually beat the best in the world by fluking it especially in texas hold em. You could never do that in sports..

It should never even be considered as a sport and I don't know why someone would even think of it that it's a sport. A sport is an athletic activity requiring skills or physical prowess.

Poker is definitely not a sport.
But, it 's also not based on luck, especially in professional poker.
