Well, here is a debateable topic... Does karma exist?

Personally I think karma is more of a mindset rather than a spiritual governing force, but im not saying it doesnt exist. Persay, if you were to punch someone, chances are they just might punch back. Its a consequence, but if you were to shoot someone, thereby killing them, and 'get away' with it, is karma going to make the police track you down? Or is it going to drop a meteor on your head?

lol, I dunno, just another one of my random rants... But what do you, reader, think about karma?

karma.

A big foundation for the hindu religion. Being hindu myself, I can tell you of their beleifs and customs.

We believe(i mean hindu's in general and me to some extent) that whenever you do something, you will get a result. Its kinda like newton's third law-> "every action has an equal and opposite reaction". Only in karma its not opposite. Good deeds beget (sp? ) good outcomes, while bad begets bad.

In the bhagvad gita( kind of like our bible), Krishna(one our gods) tell arjun(one of the characters of the story) that when doing a bad deed, expect to bear the costs of it but when you do a good deed, do not expect anything in return.

Many also believe that karma can carry over lives. If you do a bad deed or a good deed in your previous life, you will bear the fruits in the present one also. Whenever someone is succesfull in life, many believe it is because of the good deeds that he did in his/her previous birth. Ofcourse hardwork is also taken into account.

However, karma also has a bad side. Many people just throw away their lives at the slightest hint of misfortune. Something bad happens, they say its because of karma and they cant do anything so the rest of their life is going to be bad. Look at it in another point of view. If you have bad karma, you should accept it and deal with it and make sure to lead a good life so that in your next birth, you do not have to suffer that much.

Ill end my huge but pitiful discourse here. :)

I think that something along the lines of karma exists, whether it's actually karma or just the way life goes. If you do bad stuff, bad stuff is eventually going to happen to you.

I would say that karma exists to a certain point, but might not happen 100% of the time. Like, if someone's just plain rotten to other people, ir if they do something bad to someone, something bad's bound to happen to them eventually. Or maybe it's just the way life works, or maybe a coincidence? Interesting topic.

kismet....yeah that's the word that fits me. As for my kismet I'm still living out my dreams right now and making my future happen. Will probably upload some photos here from an internet club. Using a remote server at moment...hope this message makes it to you guys!!!

I've never been a real believer in things like karma, but the past 24 hours have really swayed my opinion of it. In addition to the events, there have been a lot of little coincidences to make me thing something cosmic is going on.

My sister's going through a pretty messy divorce, mostly due to a lot of deception on the part of my brother-in-law. He did some very sneaky things, including making a whole lot of money disappear (we still have no idea where it is or what it might have been spent on).
In the time since he left the house, he's been a miserable **** in the way he's been treating my sister and my two nieces.

The divorce isn't yet finalized, yet 2 months after he got out of the house, he managed to start himself a whole new family. He's now apparently engaged to the new lady (I use that term loosely) judging from the engagement ring on her finger. It should be noted that my sister never got an engagement ring in the 18 years they were together. He includes his new lady's son in everything, to the point that he excludes his daughters.

He's basically been an unbearable prick, even before his various deceptions were uncovered.

Well, he's been having stomach problems, and went in for surgery the other day. Supposedly to remove some benign growths, or something of that nature. Now, word is that they were tumors, and weren't benign.

Needless to say, the first thing that came to my mind was: karma. His negative behavior is starting to manifest itself physically, and is eating away at him from the inside out.
I really think that the best thing for everyone involved in my family would be for this to go quickly and be very final in it's course, so we can simply be free of his deception and controlling personality. I'm not a terribly vengeful person, and I usually hold a very "live and let live" attitude, but I really do look at this like karmic justice.

As for the coincidences I mentioned, when I heard the news last night, the first word I thought of to describe the situation was "karma", and when I woke up this morning, this was the only thread with new posts. Coincidence #1.

When I turned on the news this morning, they were talking about different health care websites. The second one they mentioned was for the Mayo Clinic, which happens to be where he's recovering from his surgery. Coincidence #2.

psi> Good to hear from you. Glad things are going well. Just be sure not to leave us behind. ;)

I believe in Karma. I believe if you treat people right that good things do happen to you. If you treat people rotten, sooner or later it will come back to haunt you.

I believe you should strive to live a good life and treat people with respect.

Dan- shame on your brother-in-law.

Karma. Yeah it exists (IMO). Its cause and effect. Balance. You cannot gain something without giving something. Everyone needs a reminder of that (especially me once in a while).

But what it comes down to is this. Something withoout form only exists if you believe it. In essence a lie isn't really a lie until someone believes it. It is just a falsehood. Belief gives it power over a person and it becomes a lie. Much like Karma is only circumstance until someone believes it to be Karma.

Hope that makes sense! :D
