Elian was not a case of a refugee or political asylum. It was a case of kidnapping pure and simple. If the same situation happened here and one parent took a child away from another and went to a differnt state, the gov't would do all that it could to bring the child back. Cuba may be somewhat communist, but that is no reason to say that the U.S. is morally superior. Elian had to go to his father. We shouldn't take a child away from a parent just because we think that child should live in a capitalist world.
I think the problem with the Elian thing is that they took along time to make their decision. They shoulc have acted right away and sent him right back. They waited a bit just so it wouldn't look like Castro won.
