So tomorrow is Ash wednesday which begins Lent. Are you giving anything up?

My church posted this on FB.....

Lent is approaching quickly! In today's culture and climate, we need every encouragement we can in order to test ourselves, to prove ourselves worthy to be disciples of Christ. Lent is a fantastic opportunity to die to oneself, and learn to cling all the more to Christ, who loves us and gave Himself up on the cross for us. And yet, Lent is not meant to be sad or depressing, but filled with joy. This comedy song is my attempt to inject some much needed joy into the Lenten season. May it encourage you and give you laughter!

Shall I try to give up Coca Cola again (LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL)

I don't know yet

I have been dieting, doing the atkins plan for 8 days now. I've lost 6 pounds. I quit sugar EXCEPT for in my morning coffee, though I cut it drastically. I was using a tbsp or 2 in a 16 oz cup. Now, I am down to 1/2 a tsp.Tomorrow, I will not use it.

As hard as it will be...............I think I shall give up cooking and cleaning. :bowing:

I used to give things up, like caffeine or sugar or tv... but it didn't help me focus on the season. Adding prayer or service time is better for me. My goal so far is to fit in 20 minutes of Bible reading each morning.

Oh that's a nice idea. Instead of taking something away, you're adding something good. :)

I'm giving up skipping workouts. Except on Sundays (Sundays are not part of Lent, right?).

OH I'm also going to try to rein in my spending. I think I've been shopping as an unhealthy way to deal with stress. I need to return a bunch of crap I don't need.

I'm not giving up anything. It was taught to me at a very young age that you give up something for Lent in order to make it a permanant change in your life. After Lent you don't go back to what it was you gave up.

I'll be doing something instead. Not sure what yet, because there's so much of me I'd like to change, but I'll be there by morning.

I agree with this. I'm trying to drastically reduce the number of processed foods we eat. I don't know that it's possible to completely eliminate them, but I'm hoping to do better in that area. Also considering healthier meat options, like buying half a cow.
