Lent, what are ya giving up?

I'm am going to STOP the little FREE deals to the store! I am giving up FREE Shaving Cream, Free Paper Towels, Free UP and Up Pain Reliever, Free Baby Lips...etc. I will go shopping once per week for the next 40 days!!!!This will be extremely HARD for me as I love the deals! I Really don't need most of what is FREE, but I Want It! I will spend less time on computer and more time with DF.

I also believe in trying to do something to better myself that will last well past Lent. It probly sounds crazy, but I'm trying to stop swearing like a sailor. Every time I swear during Lent, I will put a quarter in the swear jar and on Easter Sunday I will donate the money to our church. I will still keep the swear jar after Lent, but not sure what to do with that yet. (We're at $1 for today)

I used to give up some food thing, usually late night snacking, which is really tough to stop after being up til 2AM, 3AM :gah: ....
this is what our priest kiddingly referred to as "Catholic Weight Watchers" during this morning's homily  his point being that it should be more than just about the act of giving up something... not bashing anyone, everyone knows what's in their hearts ♥.... now instead, I make a commitment to get closer to God, to pray the Stations of the Cross on Fridays, to attend some special programs my church offers during the Lenten season. I NEED this reminder to slow down and concentrate on what is important and reconnect with the Lord who sacrificed Himself for me. Last year at this time, my BFF was battling her bone marrow disease that came back on her at full force and then awaiting the rigors of her 2nd bone marrow transplant and my dad was failing rapidly.... I dedicated my extra church time to praying for them. Really, I could sit in church and pray and think and cry for a long time..... I feel so at peace there :cry1:

Swale are you from the south? In our midwest area a woman drinking a beer would not be unusual, even from a bottle. I have been to South Carolina and they looked at my girlfriends and myself lilke we had two heads for drinking a beer from a bottle in a public place.

And to get back on topic. I also do something positive each day during lent instead of giving something up.

LOL....I'm from the midwest....I have no idea, I think the kids think that it is weird seeing a mom having a beer out of the bottle....they think it is funny...I guess kinda truck driverish. I am not very girlieish...I guess not like most moms. I perfer being outside in the dirt, working on cars...cutting grass, ect...not what they are used to seeing. LOL, I only have a beer out of the bottle, never in a glass and I can't do fruity drinks...

I grew up in St. Louis, Anheuser Busch country and LOVE my beer. The bottle is the best way to drink it! When I worked, I had a glass of white wine at functions, but I really like the bottled beer!

Last year was the first time I participated in anything Lent related. (I am a protestant- raised baptist) But we gave ourselves away for 40 days with various tasks and gifts.

I assume lent is equivalent to fasting, correct? Are you able to give up a sin for lent? I know that you can't fast from a sin, since you shouldnt do the sin anyway, so assume it is the same for Lent.

Guess they'd really freak if you drank from a can.

I'm giving up meat. I picked this because it is something that I enjoy but often struggle with when I stop to think about where the meat came from. So if I go back (which I hope not to) than it will be local organic/cage free, etc. For this I am not eliminating meat flavorings, just meat itself. So if I make pot roast with gravy for the family I can still eat the gravy just need to find a substitute for the roast.

I choose glass over can any day. Especially beer. It has to be out of a bottle and nearly ice forming cold... YUM!

Swearing. Swore twice today. I'll be in hell by Sunday. I'm trying. However, it's been easier because I have laryngitis and can't even speak. Had to write lots at work today. I teach.

I actually feel completely fine! That's why I won't take off. I've become very creative in communication the past two days.
