What are you doing now?

Right now I am eating my brothers left over Velveeta cheese dip (I know you're jealous ) and I'm browsing AlienSoup to see what it's like and waiting for someone to post or talk over at WTF?! Other than that I'm looking up songs and playing my awesome Alverez acoustic guitar.

What are you doing now?

I play any acoustic guitar songs from classical guitar to unplugged rock songs to old fashioned folk songs, do any of you play instruments?

I'm trying to learn electric bass and guitar. Is it okay to learn on electric, or better to learn on acoustic? Also, when I'm on my guitar, I always feel that my fingers are too big. Is that normal? Should I ignore the upper part of the neck and play where the strings are further apart? :)

(I'm used to making music using synthesizers and computers, and I can play a little keyboard, but I've never learnt any of the regular instruments.)

Personally I would actually probably perfer to learn on an electric. I learned on an acoustic and my brother learned on an electric and he was able to learn faster because electric is a lot more fun when you just want to try to learn how to play it. (playing around with the distortion, etc.) Yeah, it's that way for everyone, you just have to learn how to hold the neck of the guitar right so that your fingers, when pressing down on the string don't touch other strings and hold the string down to the fret correctly. I'm not sure what you mean by your last question, you're supposed to strum about 4/5th of the way down the string from the neck, and the neck you're supposed to use to hold down the right string to the right fret.

To learn how to play guitar in the beginning I would reccomend a teacher for just a couple lessons to teach you basic things like how to hold the guitar, how to hold down the strings to the fret, how to strum and pick. After that you can look up tablature. I recommend easy songs that are easily recognizable by you, like the national anthem or something just to get a hang of playing the guitar. Most of all, be patient, it is a very hard instrument to get used to, especially if you've never played an actual instrument before. Good luck. :D

Right now I'm watching MADTV, awesome awesome awesome show!

What are you doing now?

Thank you, YoungYesrod for your elaborate reply! Very informative! :)

Yeah, it's that way for everyone, you just have to learn how to hold the neck of the guitar right so that your fingers, when pressing down on the string don't touch other strings and hold the string down to the fret correctly.

Thanks! That's a relief, I thought it was just me! ;)

What I meant was if I should play the lower frets on the neck instead of the upper ones if the strings are too close there.

I already play a little e-bass (I can play one of my riffs already), and I find bass to be a lot easier to play than guitar. But I do need to learn guitar for the higher notes. :)

Thanks! I have to look into that teacher thing perhaps. I have a number of books. Perhaps I have to practice scales first before trying to play songs. I also have a song book for acoustic guitars, perhaps I have to practice those on my electric.

Most of all, be patient, it is a very hard instrument to get used to, especially if you've never played an actual instrument before.

I know! Keyboard is a lot easier, but not as gratifying!

I love the sound of guitars, and I hope to use them as real instruments in my music someday! :)

Today: I'm wondering when I should do the weedeating. I am eating Biscuts and gravy with OJ, and typing up some posts for WTF?! and Aliensoup. :)
