Myspace relaunch coming - is it a little too late?

Sure, programming without a programming language is somewhat difficult (even machine code is a programming language of some sort).

Nowadays my focus is on programming languages C and Perl, sometimes C++. I can program in several other languages though, like JavaScript, Java, PHP, Delphi, BCPL, BASIC, Pascal, and assembly language for various types of CPU. I used to know several other languages, but I'm a bit rusty with them, like Ada 95, for example.
Nice, that's such an amazing accomplishment. Keep it up. I can't wait to see some things that you develop. And back onto the Myspace subject, I really think they should have done this years ago when Facebook started to blow up. Clearly, they're late to the game - sure, the music aspect may be keeping users there. But, there's so many different music outlets out there now. And really, since they're using global log ins - facebook included, they can snatch up new users easier that way. Hopefully they use Google's log in as well - that would help them too. But, I'm not too sure if this revamp will succeed or not, because a lot of people have totally forgotten about Myspace.

Thank you! :)

Since 1981. That's 31 years. :D

I was a kid back then (11 yo), and since I had the VIC-20, I often spent 8 hours after school every day coding games and stuff. :)

Of course, when it became my profession in my early 20ies, I had little spare time afterwards, so my private projects began to suffer ... haven't completed any of my major private projects since.

Probably remember the old BBS then :D

Yup, I had an acoustic coupler back in 1986, and wrote my own terminal software on the Amiga in BASIC to visit the BBS! :D

In the early 90ies (after modems were publicly available due to privatization of German Telekom), I still visited BBSes and BBS networks! (like MAUS and FIDO) :)

Look at this thread, for instance, you "liked" it so it must have escaped your memory ... ;)
My home page and blog also contain some stuff.
I remember it, I check it out from to time. With all the social networking sites out, its gonna be hard for Myspace to re-brand itself. But all the media attention will probably help it.

When I decided to leave myspace it was because of all the porn bots that kept adding me as friends. Is it still like that? That was years ago, too.
Spammers were running rampant on that site. I think they're still there as well. I know I get bombarded by music mails.

I think they're too late.

I also think MySpace is trying to be that one stop music network. I think a lot of people have myspace all wrong; that they want to restore MySpace to being this social media juggernaut - no, the point of Justin Timberlake's investment in MySpace is to further the entertainment niche online by evolving music technology.

See, MTV tried to do the whole Social Media project called "MyMTV," and it miserably failed because it didn't catch on to the mainstream. MTV ended up scraping the project and it wasn't long before Justin bought MySpace.

I used to have a myspace(i'm only 17 :D) and i have a facebook.

Honestly what they need to do is try and appeal to those who are sick of facebook and twitter. I left myspace in like 2008 simply because they were too far behind Facebook at the time.

Then they started trying to copy features of Facebook(and later twitter) but they way they implemented it seemed half-assed in my opinion so that further made them look like crap.

My suggestions...

1. Go back to basics....What made myspace unique was simply that you were able to make your profile representative of you and your likes vs Facebook where most profiles generally look the same except for the cover photo

2. Tap into the people who are OVER facebook and mark zuckerberg's social empire. Instead of trying to copy features that FB & Twitter have and have mastered, try and go in a different direction.

For starters...their new look is superb. I love the look of it. It reminds me of Windows 8. It's beautiful and is far more attractive visually than FB's clutter mess and Twitter.

I personally think they have POTENTIAL to come back and come back hard but they need to make the effort and not do that half-**** mess they had 2008-2012.

I ran a few myspace generators back in the day and sold those sites when facebook started getting big. I didn't make all that much money on it but I did get a ton of links back to my sites. ;)
I don't think a person could pay me enough to get back into myspace, I barely have enough time for Twitter and Facebook as it is..lol

That's the thing though. The editing of your profiles was something that made Facebook beat Myspace. Myspace had a lot of slow loading profiles because of the fact they allowed users to customize so much. Why do you think Facebook surpassed Myspace in so little time? They made social networking even more simple. Obviously, users didn't care that much for the customization because if they did, they'd would have stuck with Myspace instead of moving to Facebook.

Of course, they can tap the Facebook market with their global log in system, but thats it, Facebook is too far ahead. Myspace lost its chance a long time ago. If they actually launched this redesign prior to Facebook blowing up, then we'd have a whole different ball game.

but on the flip side, facebook is slowly beginning to die.

i mean look at their stocks and all.

while Facebook is far ahead, i wouldn't say Myspace lost it's chance especially if Facebook keeps going downhill as it isnow.

Yup, I remember the days of multipule songs/videos autoplaying on page load. I can also remember MySpace crashing my browser due to all the flash. Not to mention all the unscrupulous profile generators that put up a bunch of hidden links and graphics.

I do remember MySpace rolling their own music and video embedders. It seemed like a stopgap measure but people were already used to 3rd party services. MySpace did come out with it's own in-house profile generator right around the time I left. It actually was pretty good but to little to late.

As much as it was nice to 'express yourself' people who have no background in design have no business customizing their profiles with hideous colors and auto-loading music/video.
