What's new

Need ideas for a thanksgiving dessert (not a pie)

I get requests for this every year. I don't use a mold though, I just put it in a round Pyrex dish. (Cranberry Pineapple jello)

Thanksgiving Jell-O!! :hiphip::cartwheel::bliss:

Jell-O is a food group in my extended family. With them, it's served with the meal, not with dessert. This recipe (except I think they use whipping cream instead of sour cream) is always served at Thanksgiving; there is a green one with walnuts that is always served at Christmas.

The first time I went to Thanksgiving at my in-laws, I told MIL "I'll make the Jell-O" assuming everyone had a Jell-O dish at holidays. She told me "why don't you bring something else; I already have plans to make a salad." I was all :dunce:

I have this in the oven now. I'm afraid it will become one that we get addicted to.....waiting patiently for it to bake.

Very, very tasty. I used almonds on top as pecans where way too expensive.

So the cake mix you dont make as directed right , you just use the dry cake mix right from the box ontop of the pumpkin mixture?

I made the pumpkin mixture first. I used a deep baking pan, then as the directions said, sprinkle the cake mix on top, then add the nuts and melted butter.

I wasn't crazy with the unbaked cake mix at all. The nut topping was really good. My DD warmed it up this morning for breakfast, I ate it cold.

:lol: Yeah Jell-O isn't something our families do either. Well when DH's Nanna was alive she made some but only the old peeps ate it.

I've made these Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars twice in the past two weeks and they are to die for....

Cut into nice squares and placed onto a pretty serving tray and they look beautiful.

I just showed the link to DH and asked if I should make that this year for T-day. He's drooling!!! :lol:

It'll be our first time having T-day since we now have a big enough house. I'm pretty excited. :dance:
