UFC welterweight contender Nick Diaz failed his post-fight urinalysis Saturday following his loss to Carlos Condit in their bout for the interim welterweight championship at UFC 143 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, announced Thursday.

Diaz, 28, who tested positive for marijuana, is a second-time offender in Nevada and, thus, faces a one-year suspension. He also tested positive for marijuana following a Feb. 24, 2007, victory over Takanori Gomi at a PRIDE Fighting Championship event held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Wonder what the commission will do once it all gets legalized.

Such a shame really. Not being able to relax with a harmless plant without risk of being caught with a "drug test" is ridiculous to me.

I think when athletes get paid as much as they do they should shape up and do what they are getting paid to.I do MMA as a hobby and it costs me money lol but its fun.If i was pro id try to keep it on the straight and narrow just like i do as a non pro

I agree and I dont.

I think yes if it was controlled by the government and some guy in his basement wasnt lacing it with coke or something else, then sure. But if its controlled its likely legal in some shape or form.

I think hes in the wrong because illegal is illegal. If it was medicinal that is one thing, then I think he should fight it. The issue is he is likely buying it from some dude in his camp, getting high every day to chill out.

The Diaz's are known as thugs, this doesn't help their image especially when the younger brother says he looks up to his older bro.

Whatever your views on drug legalisation and whatnot you can't really have any tolerance for funny business given the wide scope there is for abuse with performance enchancing substances. It's the kind of thing that opens the door to the destruction of a sports crediblilty, any sports credibility.

It's not surprising that Nick got busted for this as he makes it publicly known as well and has been in trouble for it before, the thing that gets me though is Joe Rogan even though its RX'd legally by a doctor can smoke up all he wants and still hold a job with UFC with no fines or any legal troubles. I don't think it helps the sport of MMA grow because the vast majority of new MMA fan's are going to see something like this and be turned off by MMA thinking that its just a bunch of drug taking thug's. On his fight with Condit though I personally believe he lost fair and square "Dont leave it in the judges hands" Nick! even if you think you were winning the rounds, because if you want to say that then your not being a so called Fighter either your scoring point's and rounds just like you accused Condit of doing to win, so please don't be hypocritical Nick lol. I'm sure Dana will be cracking down on Nick soon the kid is his own worst enemy, and he really does not seem to care. I think he needs to take some time off and really think about I'f fighting is the right career for him especially after his little post fight rant about calling it quits and retiring from MMA.

Kind Regards,

Oh so what's his excuse for the loss then? "I was high"? lol

His only excuse is that Condit ran, and some questionable judging. Which is perfectly understandable.

He smoked Marijuana weeks before the fight so it had little to no effect on his performance.

I honestly think that a 1-year suspension is incredibly harsh. A few months should have sufficed.
