For those of you who work in an office environment, do you guys ever pull pranks on your co-workers? When I was in KC I had about 15 other Marines in my office and we played practical jokes on each other every day. Sometimes it would just be something minor like unplugging the mouse and keyboard from someone's computer while they went to the bathroom and sometimes we'd have more elaborate pranks like re-arranging a few keys on someone's keyboard (We did that to this one dude who was from Russia and it took him 3 days to figure it out). I'm bringing this up now because I still work in an office environment but it's just not the same. I worked with a great group of people in KC and even though we all busted our asses getting our jobs done, we still had a hell of a lot of fun along the way. So here are a few of the things we used to do to each other to make life a little more interesting......

1. Take the mouseball out of everyone's mouse and put them in the "office **** bag's" desk.

2. Super glue everything on a persons desk to their desk. Go ahead and glue the handset on their phone to the reciever too.

3. Unplug everything (mouse, keyboard, printer, monitor, etc) from their computer.

4. Loosen the back of their chair so when the sit down and lean back they roll right off.

5. If you are required to log on your computer, switch a few computers around the office so the next time some co workers try to log on, their info won't load properly.

6. We are required to "lock" our computers by hitting "alt, ctrl, delete" so that no one can use our computer if we're away from our desk. If someone fails to do this, say while they are using the bathroom, send an email from their computer to everyone in the office announcing that they've come out of the closet.

7. If the jackass did lock their computer, then be a **** by entering an incorrect password 2 times and then put the Caps Lock on. That way, when they come back to their computer their password will be rejected and they will be locked out of their computer until someone from IT resets their password for them.

8. If you work in a cubicle farm, use some plastic wrap and duct tape to seal up the opening to someone's cubicle and then fill it up with packing peanuts.

9. Put a dab of hand lotion on the ear piece of someone's phone.

10. Throw some tobasco sauce in the community coffee pot to help cure a case of "The Monday's".

Is it immature? Of course it is. But working in an office environment can be so dreadfully boring ya just gotta spice things up from time to time. What do you guys do to help keep yourselves entertained?

no, not really. Most partners in law firms tend to frown upon practical jokes in the work place, and all you need is one **** to make your life miserable.

At my first job out of law school, I had a good circle of work friends and we used to kid each other a lot, but I don't recall it rising to the level of practical jokes.

at one job, we did it to a certain extent, nothing which would get them in trouble or effect their work though, one kid was like mr "player" in his own mind, so we used to mess with him, another had funky hair, so he got ****ed with some, its easy when the whole dept is in about a 5 yr age range, so everyone has alot in common

Fortunately the office I work at is pretty loose. We do joke around a lot with each other esp my boss but no pranks as described.

nope. not my style and real childish

it's just a way to have some fun in an otherwise monotonous setting, especially if everyone is into it...maybe it's not your thing, but you don't have to sound condescending.

I can't say there have been many pranks in any office setting, but then I haven't really had too many office setting jobs. There were, however, some pretty good pranks at university (of course).

I remember one weekend in particular, when my friends from home were visiting. While we were all at the bar, they distracted me so that two of them could sneak back to my house and put my bed in the basement. To fully appreciate this, however, you'd have to see my bed and the basement (it was a full framed queen sized bed, and the basement was tiny with not enough room to stand upright...and they did this drunk!). Needless to say, I got home pissed drunk at 2am wanting nothing more than to pass out on my bed...and found that I had no bed.

Turns out my housemate let them into my room with the extra key...sooo.. the next day while he was at a lab, we went in his room, pushed all his furniture up against his door, and climbed out through his window (on the second floor). He nearly broke his door down before I made it up the stairs and explained to him, between laughs, why his door wouldn't budge. The best part was him trying to hold back the anger - I could tell he was so pissed, but he had to put on a good face about it because he knew he had brought it on himself. (we also documented the entire process on his camera, so he would be further reminded of it the next time he checked his pictures)

offices full of engineers and a lack of pranks?

go figure. :P:

If you get into the office first, go around to everyone's desk and turn the volume up on their computer speakers, then watch them jump when they cut them on.

Where I work now, we have a lot of people with different college themed desktops. So when people don't lock their computers we like to change their desktops to another (our) teams.

I think pranks and ribs are fun as long as they are in good spirit and not mean. As long as it's silly and not personal, it's all in good fun.

 assuming that was sarcasm, engineers are actually pretty bad when it comes to pranks...some of the eng pranks at university were just crazy!

My current workplace is a plant, not an office...so it's a little harder to pull pranks (hey look, I made you get your arm cut off...haha).

Exactly. That's what I loved about the people I worked with when I was in KC. We all got along great and everyone was into it. The few cry babies who weren't got left alone. But for the most part, we were all just having some fun in an otherwise boring working environment.
