DD27 had an emergency c-section. She was due July 8 - she's 5 1/2 weeks early. She has eclampsia & HELLP syndrome. DD is on magnesium IV trying to prevent seizures. Liver enzymes are elevated, bad migraine, etc. She had a blood transfusion this morning, another scheduled this afternoon. They have not told me she has HELLP but she has all the symptoms. This is their first baby.
Baby Maggie was born 6/1 at 12:43 am. She weighs 4 lbs and is 18" long. She is in NICU and breathing on her own, lower part of one lung was not totally inflated. Her color is good. She seems to be doing ok, she sucks on her pacifier which is almost as big as her little face :giggles:
I know with all the fabulous CWer's out there that maybe someone has had some experience with this, and if not at least there are some very powerful prayers among us all. Asking for your prayers please!! Will try to update as I can - thank you all!
As you know I was on that same curve with Lawson, but made it to 38w6d before he decided he'd had enough. This time my BP was down to normal within 24 hours of birth and I may get to go home a day early as we are both recovering so well.
It was much worse, but again not to the degree your daughter is ill, with Lex. I made it to 37w3d with him and actually got much sicker after delivery, which sometimes happens. Lex wasn't breathing when they did the c-section but they were able to correct that and he's perfectly fine now.
There are lots of cases out there that turn out well and it sounds like she is getting fantastic care.
A friend from high school developed HELLP and had her baby via emergency c section at 26 weeks. Her baby was only 1lb 6 oz at birth but survived. She made a full recovery but had to be under very low stimulation and in the dark to prevent seizures and for awhile after she had trouble focusing during conversation. She made a full revovery. Baby andrew had many ups and downs and just came home last month, after 9 months in the nicu. He went home with a trach tube and lots of therapies. Sounds like your dd and grand dd are a little better off than my friend. Still scary, hope that everyone makes a full recovery!
If it helps, my dd was also born about 6 weeks early. She spent 10 days in the NICU and just graduated from 8th grade last night (and she's smart as can be!)
