Ohhhh....nooooo....i had no idea that this stuff was coming and with 4 boys....now I'm nervous! If you find some magic solution....please post sometime in the next 5 years!!! Big hugs to you until that solution comes!

i have known some very cordial young men who are delighted to shop with the family. just not any boys in my family. so you may actually be in for a pleasant surprise. i think it is in the personality. my boy hates to leave the house. nuff said. all 3 of my kids would honestly rather stay home in their comfy house than go on a vacation. even to disney. they are homebodies. i guess i should be pleased that we have created such a pleasant environment for them to live in, but they need to see the world a bit more. all in due time i hope.

Thanks for the note of encouragement....my boys are also homebodies...especiallly the 9 year old. The others at least 2 of the triplets are more flexible...the oldest triplet...is more vocal and harder to manage than the others...I just don't get it. They actually will say..."can't you do your errands while we are at school?" Some of the errands are for them!!! Geesh....ungrateful little ......

exactly!! Why do I have to go with to buy jeans? I am fine with what I have. I explain except the knee is blown out, or it appears 1 good sneeze and the pants will explode as they are too small.

Why do I have to go to get shoes? I answered because chopping your feet off to make sure they fit seems a bit extreme. Lets not forget if I did this, I'd probably go to jail and you might just bleed to death. Life could be worse then receiving new shoes you know.

If I pick my kids up from school and need to stop somewhere on the way home...............O M G!!! The almost 12 year old has a straight up fit demanding to be dropped off at home first (he can stay alone for a lil while). When I explain that the stop is close to school he asks why I didn't do it while they were in school.
The other day I said to him "You could use a few more pairs of jeans, we'll go shopping this weekend." Wouldn't most kids appreciate new clothes? Noope, not him. He gets all pissy.............then I get pissed at tell him how ungrateful he is, etc. :surrender:
I have a good mind to let him keep wearing the same two pair of jeans (distinct styles) until someone says something to him about wearing the same jeans all the time........then mebbe he'll think some new clothes might be nice. :snicker:

ETA: Mamma we were typing at the same time. I'm LMAO about the jeans (well sorta). :lol:

Now see my DS wants new stuff ALL the time. Mom I need new shoes. Didn't I just buy a pair a month ago? Mom I need some new jeans. Didn't I just buy you 2 new pair a few weeks ago? Mom I really need some new sweatshirts. Didn't I buy you all new school clothes in Aug.? Mom I want a new cell phone, MP3 player, skateboard. I answer put it on your birthday/Christmas list.

The best part of it is he wants all this stuff but refuses to go shopping for any of it. He nags me to get jeans,shoes,sweatshirts but will not go to the store to try anything on. Does he really think that I want to spend my time being his personal shopper...oh and then deal with him being totally disgusted when I get the wrong size. I don't understand why men hate to shop. It's not my all time favorite thing to do but if I need a new pair of shoes I know I will have to go try them on. The men in my house are LAZY LAZY LAZY.

yep! thats my boy to a tee! he complains how i should have done it when he was at school! and the other thing i hate, is him bursting through the door after school and asking "what di dyou do today?" not in a curious tone but in a "hope you did something productive" tone just like his papa. the only time that boy wants to leave is if it is to taco bell, a mlb baseball game or a car show/swap meet.
 
My kids do love going places like vacations and other fun things though. But if I offer to take them to the library...........OMG it's like I offered to have them tarred and feathered. :surrender:
 
Yep, if you're going to go to the library, could you pick me up abc book. Ummm yeah, that'd be a no, I won't bother. If you can't walk in, pick the book up off the shelf, the chances you will ACTUALLY read the book aren't seeming to high.

My kids are good readers, love to. But if they refuse the effort to pick the book up themselves, I refuse to run for them.

I mentioned yesterday asking oldest if he took care of his lunchbox. I was told them he would get to it when he did his homework. Well, his homework was done yet I never saw the lunchbox. This morning I asked if they were on diets. I received the look of Are you nuts? They inquired why? I explained well since no one could take 10 whole seconds to empty the box so I can fill it, I am assuming its diet day? No?

I informed them it takes THEM 10 seconds to bring me the lunchbox. 10 minutes for me to fill it, who is wasting their time here and receiving what for it? Imagine that, mysteriously missing lunchboxes reappeared 10 seconds later.
 
omg, yep

i have 2 teen boys, 14 and 16.

i know, everyone always says girls are the worst. and, i get that. im sure they pose extra challenges.

but, the boy thing is not to be under-estimated. it, all of it, can drive a mom crazy. the funny thing? dh is able to put some things in the "he's a teen boy, what'd you expect" file way quicker than i can. maybe it is a been-there-done-that feeling dh gets. LOL:surrender:
 
OMG Mamma we do the lunchbox "convo" daily. All I ask is that they bring the damned things in from the car, I clean them out and make lunches. Went to make lunches this morning and no boxes............yup both still in the car. We were running late (thanks DH) so I ran out and got them while they got ready. :surrender:

Re: the library............get this..............DS11 (the reader, other one doesn't like to yet) only wants to read books he owns (hard cover please). :surrender::surrender::surrender:

His birthday and Christmas presents are books that he asks for from us and Barnes & Noble GC's from family. I've also been taking him to St. Vinnies where he found some pretty current, beautiful hard cover books for .75 (he's reading one now). Book snob!!! :ranting:

Me: Did you take care of your lunch box?

Me: Son, grab your clothes and put them away please. (now picture it, I have washed dried folded or mated their socks, underwear, hung their jeans and shirts on hangers... all they have to do is carry it up the stairs to the drawer or closet!
Son: OMG anything else today?
And you know the fight began with this wisecrack!


Mind you these folks do no chores. It is not like they are overwhelmed although I am re-thinking this idea. Maybe they need chores.

So my question is, is this normal 13 year old behavior or is this total disrespecting bratting? It sure as **** can not continue, just wondering if this is normal for any one else's house?

I didn't read the whole thread..

It's totally normal…

This is a conversation we have had a couple times in my house…

Me: Walk the Dogs
Him: I don't wanna (enter random excuse here)
Me: If your gonna complain your going to be grounded and your STILL going to do it. So you make the choice. Do it and shut your mouth. Or still do it then be grounded as well.

I got tired of hearing the endless moans. After about 4 groundings (I stick to all groundings) he finally got it! I can tell he isn't thrilled about doing WHATEVER but he doesn't say a word either. Mind you the ONLY thing he does in this house is walk the dogs and keep his room "clean-ish". Once in a while we throw an extra chore in there but not too often. So he did not have ANYTHING to complain about…

Akia dn I had a HUGE list of chores to do when we were younger… this is one spoiled little **** lemme tell ya!
 
Just read this OP. All I can say is that it doesn't get better and man your son would HATE living with me.

I get the evil eye from DD15 sometimes. Shoot me daggers all day, just keep it to yourself.

Here is a list of things that my kids(15, 7, 6, & 4) do on a daily basis:

Make their beds.
Pull their dirty laundry.
Put away any new clean laundry.
Clean their rooms(as needed).
Clean their bathroom(group effort as they get it messy. So I have one wipe down the sink, the other straighten the towels or get clean ones, the other checks the floor, etc.)
Clean the kitchen(After a day of meals its a mess. So again this a group effort. DD15 does the dishes & wipes down the counter. DD7 Swifters the floor. DD6 sweeps it. DD4 wipes off the table.)


All other house chores are designated throughout the week as needed. Most everything is a group effort. If I'm being honest, besides keeping my space clean, I don't do much cleaning myself anymore. I'm more management these days than anything. :giggles:

mrs piggy, i SO hear ya

and i wonder if we are screwing ourselves by not giving them as many chores as dh and i had when we were growing up. granted, both our boys have pretty full schedules, are pretty active in sports, and they get great grades, but, i also had a job (as in a paycheck) when i was 15 or 16...:surrender:
 
I posted earlier that my boys have no chores. Reading this thread made me realize that the things that are expected of them and done daily are considered chores to some. Putting away clean laundry, making beds, feeding dog, cleaning up their mess in the bathroom, cleaning up their mess in the kitchen and loading their dishes in the dishwasher. Cleaning their room, putting laundry down laundry shoot. Pretty much if you use it you clean it or put it away. These are not considered chores to me, this is just living. Hmm....maybe I should give my boys a hug and say NICE JOB!!!!! They have learned from my husband if MOMMA ain't happy NOBODYS happy.
 
I got a 12 year old and a 17 year old..............it never ****ing ends............I think if it wasnt an automatic response theyd **** about breathing oxygen
 
Mine are 20,16,13,12=craziness..
Me=put dishes in dishwasher
DD20=Eww they are dirty,thats gross
Me=Yes thats why they are dirty so if you want them clean put them in dishwasher..
