Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Out of my 3 things- Nero, Musicmatch, and RealJukebox- I can't figure out how to take a CD I have, rip the songs onto the computer, and convert the songs to MP3...

HELP! please

Hey, it's the least I can do, and you know that's all I do

With what you have, MusicMatch or RealJukebox would be the program you'd want to use.
Nero is for burning things onto CD, not for ripping from (although I think it might be capable of both).

It's really pretty easy to do. Personally, I don't like MM or RJ because they produce crappy sounding MP3s.
I like AudioCatalyst. Easiest to use, produces the best sounding files, and uses less overhead than MM or RJ because it doesn't try to be something it's not.

Where can I get that?

I'm pretty sure it can be found in retail stores like Best Buy and CompUSA.

There's a trial version out at the usual places: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-1896417-100-914386.html?tag=st.dl.10001- 103-1.lst-7-1.914386

PS. Their website had been down for about a month, but it looks like it's back up. http://www.xingtech.com/mp3/audiocatalyst/

PPS. Looks like they were absorbed by RealNetworks, so RealJukebox and AudioCatalyst come from the same place now. Happily, they kept the two as seperate products.

Can I do what I want with the trial version?
Cuz if not I'll save my valuable hd space!!

Yes, but I think it's time limited.
It's definitely worth the purchase price though.

Let me put it this way: I've already ripped through roughly 150 discs, and it's made the whole process simple and painless, as well as making the resultant files sound great.
If it's enough to handle my needs, I'm pretty sure it'd work for anyone.

As for wasting your precious hard drive space, that's what MusicMatch is there for.

Good point...BUT, I only got that cuz that was the first burning program I got and I just forgot to take it off...
lol.gif

My analysis, NO ONE get musicmatch...it, well, sucks, to put it lightly...

MusicMatch isn't a burning program.
It's designed to organize, catalog, and playback your MP3 files. Then, they threw in a cheap-**** encoder to try to make it do everything anyone could want.
Unfortunately, it makes crappy sounding files, and no one would buy a product that made crappy sounding files, so they eventually had to move to an ad-based model that would allow them to give the product away.

Well I just downloaded it, and was rather disappointed. I guess I was wondering why I couldn't burn, er DUH!

I've watched Leo Laporte on ZDTV. Needless to say, I don't read any ZD magazines anymore. Between CNET and Ziff-Davis, there's a disturbing lack of tech knowledge. It's disturbing because it's being passed off as knowledgable authority.

Ever wonder why ALL Ziff-Davis magazines still rate HP products consistently higher than those of their competitors, even though HP products cost more and offer less features? It's called "influenced bias".

It occurs because a publication is afraid to write a critical review because of what effect it might have on that manufacturer's advertising status.
I could go on a part-by-part basis and show where an HP product got a better review even though a competitor's product is actually offering more/better features at lower cost.

Only tech magazine worth reading anymore is Maximum PC.

You know what's that SO funny? The fact that you are so right, and by not watching it that the name (a while ago) has changed to TechTV!

But I agree, the ONLY TechTV show I watch now is Gamespottv...they actually know what they're talking about! But I'd still put my money on ign!

Maximum...heard of it, but never read it...
I usually get my resources from bro, (now you), and online.

Leo does give out some usefull knowledge though, I'll give him that. But only sometimes!

Like how he shows how a computer works and all that stuff!

ZDTV is the name of the cable channel, not the show(s) he's on.
I only had ZDTV on my cable system for 4 months, then I moved where the cable provider didn't carry that channel. I'm better off for not having it, or I'd be likely to spread disinformation as readily as they do.
It just goes to show you that just because someone has a pulpit from which to speak doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're talking about.

, kinda like me!?

And if what you say is true, then it's really sad, because so many people watch the shows...

Maybe you should start your own TV show!
And the soupers could all be the crew. All 648 of them!!

Nap, even winamp will dump out WAV files that you can burn to CD, so if you are trying to save precious hard drive space, then there you go...you sacrifice a little quality, I think.

JH> He's trying to go TO mp3, not from mp3.
And you sacrifice quality during the mp3 compression process, not when you extract to wav.

Wav is an uncompressed format, so you don't lose quality. If I were to rip an audio track from CD to wav, one probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference except with the utmost scrutinizing. However, there is a noticable drop in quality when you convert that wav file to mp3 because the mp3 algorithm is a lossy compression format.
