What's new

snow ****in'

I forgot to add 2 things:

If anyone wants to pm me their number to check in, please do it tonight.

And, DD stayed home with a migrane today, and she and DH ate all but 2 of the bananas. WTF? They never eat them. What should I do?

Oh dear. How can you survive a blizzard without bananas????

You all are making headline news tonight down here tonight.

One weatherman said that it's going to be a ....

"blowing, blinding bad blizzard", and proceeded to whip out a pair of goggles to show ....what you should wear. He looked like an idiot!

...but now just to confirm my sympathy for you,.....do you remember my posts of the blizzard we went thru when Dh and I went back home for X-mas?? It was waaay white-out baaad.

...jus sayin'

Hang in there, and be safe.

motherfuckers!! not your vols, but IDOT. WTH, the hospital is on 31. It's a freaking state route :pms:

I feel the same way! :-) I just don't get it after living in Chi-town...why can't they keep up up here? I've been up here 10 yrs. now and I STILL don't get it!

I'm home and don't plan on leaving until this storm has passed. Prolly longer than that since it's gonna take some time to dig out if Kerri's map is right. :surrender: My neighbor e-mailed me to say she's got the snowblower gassed up and ready to go if the predictions are correct. I've got the bestest neighbor! :cartwheel:

ShopRite was even worse than expected. The crowds weren't that bad but I was really surprised how bare some of the shelves were. I've never really seen that here. It was for strange items too - bagged salads, loose rolls & bagels, and even mushrooms were totally gone. The bakery was pretty sparse and the pre-packaged deli stuff was slim pickins'. But there was plenty of milk, regular bread, soda, chips, even shovels.

Not surprisingly, there wasn't a banana to be found. The display was totally empty. (They are on sale this week for .49/lb so I'm guessing that also contributed to the problem.) So I'll have to suffer through this storm without any bananas, but since they haven't put my area under a B warning as of yet, I'm ok with that. I got plenty of crap food to keep me happy. :giggles:

Yes, I'll charge the cell phone tonight (and will dig out the manual to start figuring the **** thing out) just in case.

Lmao about bananas again!!! It cracks me up every storm! And I came home to bananas today too! But I'm south of I-80, so we aren't supposed to get snow...just rain.

I totally agree KG...the other morning when when it was bad, all the roads on my way were fine and I take the back way to Barrington, River, Roberts..etc. The only road I had problems with was rte 22....the Main Road for the Hospital Entrance! I don't know who does the schedule for the routes, but it sucks!

it's IDOT that sucks (they're responsible for 22). Those other roads get plowed by the county (McDOT) or town. IDOT's plow routes are longer, so when we get a lot of snow fast, their plows don't keep up as well as the county/local plows. You'd think the state would have better funding and state roads would get cleared faster, but the state of Illinois seems to F up everything they touch.

I was proud that I made good choices today. It was sooooo miserable trying to get to Emmalee. DS was supposed to have a game tonight and wasn't supposed to be home until 6 or so. We were supposed to go to libertyville for X-rays.

I called DS schol to see if the games would be cancelled and got the usual idiot answer.... Called dh to see if he was heading towards home or would be out of the area too. He was going t of the area...I called the district office and the games were going to be cancelled. So back home we headed.

Had I not been proactive, we wouldn't have known until toooo late that DS would have been sent home with no one there and he didn't have a key.

The way traffic was he would have been outside over an hour.

I am a glutton for punishment and on a whim, I decided to go to Walmart and watch the people going crazy. I will say that if I needed pretty much anything, I would go grocery shopping Monday. THere was no milk, water, coke, yogurt and quite a few other things to be found. There was not even anything left in the back room. Ohh, Spam and spam like products were flying off the shelf. I guess you could say I don't have that many fun things to do if I went to people watch.

I'm signing off. Going to watch the storm hysteria on the 11pm news and then go to sleep and not set the alarm. :cartwheel:

Stay safe everyone and keep checking in and updating!

Ok i should be happy my van broke down and i had to call off work today. Even if we here at home got nothing but rain the area by work seemed to get snow / ice so glad i missed a bad drive home :)

Flurrying lightly now, but this isn't part of THE storm.

Love my dad, but nearly blew a gasket last night while we were out shopping. [BTW Stop & Shop was bare of bread, bagged salad, and half & half.] He said we should go shopping at Hannaford tomorrow night since the meat dept will be filled with markdowns because no one will have been out shopping. Yeah, right. I'm going to kill myself digging out ASAP to save a few bucks. Not happening. I bought us 10 lb of fresh thighs last night, 99¢ lb was deal enough, TYVM.

Has it started yet?

I'm gonna ignore who asked the question and answer it anyway. :tap:

Yes, it's started here. So far as they predicted - light snow. Roads (at least outside my windows) are clear but everything else is coated.

Local power company did a mass calling yesterday to let everyone know there was a storm coming (Gee, thanks for that) and that they were prepared. They'll be bringing in extra help if needed and left numbers to reach them. (not that anyone ever answers there)

I'm enjoying my snow day so far. Woke up at 8:45, had raspberry toaster strudel (they were all out of the toaster scrambles :pout: ) and coffee and just about ready to start doing some cleaning around here.

I was telling DD the same thing last night - she should go get meat first thing Sat AM since they will be marking down lots of the roasts, etc. as shopping will be light today. She will come by and dig us out Sat mid-morning, and I told her I expected her to shop as well as her old man.

I have cranked the heat up in the house to 75, as I expect us to lose power so it will give us a while to cool down to an uncomfortable level.

Glad you won't be trying to dig out yourself.

Still going to being snowing here tomorrow afternoon, IIRC.

We'll be cranking up the heat as well, I'm almost certain we'll lose power. Had to LMAO at the helpful suggestions from NSTAR & others about not opening the fridge or freezer to keep foods cold. Hell, just throw stuff in a covered plastic tub and toss it outside.

I'm worried about us keeping warm if the power goes out. Haven't used the fireplace in a very long time, but will if I need to. Laundering extra blankets so they be freshly washed in case.

The snow is starting to get bigger and heavier.

I ran the dishwasher & have a load of laundry going in case we lose power.
Haven't turned the heat up. I'll prolly regret it if power goes out but I hate when the place is too warm.

I have my battery operated standing flashlight/lantern thingie ready.
