It happened last night and now the computer is not turning on...well duh. We are now in the process of drying it out. The kid did catch as much water as she could put its not an "easy" fix.

So my question is has this happened to you and what did you do?

When u read about cell phone with water they say no fan or hairdyer as it can blow the water into other compartments and short it out. I would do rice

I have heard that people have good luck letting it just sit and dry out on its own. Wait for a few days just to make sure it is all dried out.

A neighbor kid spilled a soda on my laptop. I had to sent it in for repair and they replaced keyboard. I acted like I didn't know why it wasnt working and they covered it under warranty (Thanks Compaq). I would try just leaving it to dry out or try the rice, but don't try to boot it for at least a week or more. You could put it by a heat register (not too close) for the week and see if it helps to dry it out.

A cup of coffee spilled on a wireless keyboard = buy a new wireless keyboard.

A dropped ipod 2 days after christmas in a snowbank... dried it in rice for a week.. it works :)

You could also use those silica gel packs that come in bottles of pills and vitamins. Get the gallon size ziplocs and use the gel packs.

My Mom always saves them and has a bag full.

Yes my DH mentioned silica we have some gotta look for them in shoe boxes. Right now the laptop is still on a bed of rice and the ceiling fan is still going. UGH Mad about this because I told them over and over DO NOT DRINK near you laptop. It's a super expensive lesson for them to learn especially because it was a Macbook and not a cheaper computer.

It happened to me with a full cup of coffee. I was told to turn it upside down and leave it for at least over a week. If you try to turn it on too soon, it could do serious damage or most likely break it for good. I followed these instructions and amazingly 2 weeks later I turned it on and it worked just fine.

Do you have the mac insurance policy?

No Mac insurance. Waiting this one out. She can use my desktop if she needs a computer plus she has her smart phone to keep her informed.

DS spilled water on my laptop and I put a towel on it and closed the lid(it wont close all the way with towel) and let it sit upside down for a week , it was fine :)

huge cup of coffee on my laptop i am using now. i immediately flipped it upside down and flat on its face keyboard side down and let it dry completely out. i now use one of those elevated laptop stands to keep it from harms way. it did however take a four and ahalf foot swan dive out of my backpack in customs in ohare right onto the granite or marble floor!!! it is missing a big chunk on the left side top n bottom. compaq 17 inch portable desktop running vista, and google chrome. i will miss it when it finally dies. tanklike laptop. i might vacuum the keyboard a bit if i were you. wet vac. i have taken this one apart twice as well. had no idea what i was doing and i cannot remember why i did. running strong

Sorry, late to this one.

But if this ever happens to anybody else.

When water is spilled on something you can usually get it to work again. Coffee with (milk, sugar), pop, anything surgery...could be a different story.

1. DO NOT TURN ON.....Pull the battery (if one) immediately.

2. Take off as much of the casing as you can.

3. Put a fan that just blows plain ole air on it and leave it for several
days.

Sorry about your labtop Fuzzy....I hope it will work for you.

That sucks. I hope the suggestions you've gotten work for you.

Kiddos spilled milk on a laptop of mine years ago. I'd only had it for a few months. Never worked again. :(

Laptop, served on a bed of rice.

The thing about the rice is, I thought it need to be in a bag/etc. SEALED so it could absorb the moisture.

That's what we've done when water has gotten on our electronics. Works a good portion of the time. But we always sealed the electronic item + rice in ziploc type bag.
